thanks ever so much...its just that google gives such conflicting information that it confuses more than ever...so I thought to ask here where I have recvd sane info in the past...
bubble_trubble, your friend's ped isn't providing medical advice in line with his own professional body--the American Academy of Pediatricians if he's recommended solids for a 2 month old. AAP guidelines are AT LEAST 4-6 months and they also recommend elsewhere that breastmilk is sufficient in most cases until at least 6 months.
I have to agree with AnonDubai--I don't understand the rush, either. We did mostly baby led weaning with both kids and started at 6 months.
There was a big thread on this recently. Medical, opinions keep changing on this. My eldest started really early on paed advice. My youngest wasn't even interested at six months. There is a reflex where they stick their tongue out on being presented with a spoonful of food. If they do this, they are not ready.
You will find much conflicting advice at the minute.
Both mine were 4kg at birth and could hold heads up fom birth and yet both were entirely different.
I have to agree with Quinn. You should not start giving your baby food until the age of 6 months. I have to say that I often wonder why people want to rush this stage in a baby's life. It is horribly messy to spoon feed a baby and contrary to popular belief, it does not make them sleep longer at night. Relax! Your baby will be 6 months old before you know it!
Do not start solids until your baby is at least four months and most recommend waiting until they are closer to six months. I don't know what your friend in the US was told, but I'm guessing she misunderstood.
You shouldn't start solids until your baby can BOTH hold his head up while sitting, weighs approximately 13 pounds and is AT LEAST four to six months - otherwise you can cause serious health risks to your baby. My son is 2.5 months old, breast milk fed and top fed...have ped appt in July for his next rounds of vaccinations and consultation. Before that wanted to know what all mothers follow for introducing solids. Which month should I be introducing the extra somethings for the baby...is it after month 4? A frnd in US is already feeding mashed potatoes, beans etc as her ped mentioned if baby can hold his head whilst sitting then time for solids...even though her baby is 2 months( just abt)...so am confused whether to start solids??
