Is there a difference in quality between these bridal stores?

Hi ladies,

My friend is getting married and we went to do some bridal gown shopping. We went to the bridal showroom in jlt, the wedding shop in jumeira and the bridal room in jumeirah. Her budget is around AED 3,500 so it was hard to find the right dress with the shape and design she was looking for.

We then tried Ekaterina and maria in mazaya and found similar styles for almost 70% off the prices these showrooms were giving. The only thing was that she was unsure as to why these dresses are so cheap. The shop actually said that they buy in wholesale and actually sell to these large stores and these stores just hike the prices and people automatically think that their dresses are more expensive bcos they are at a higher price and sold in a posh looking store as compared to the shop in mazaya.

Wanted to know if there is really a difference in quality of the material used in these dresses or are they all the same. My friend does not want to walk around feeling that she has brought a cheap dress and it actually is made from cheap materials. We are both clueless on materials so when these stores were telling us that this is real net or real satin etc we would still not know if this is the truth. She doesnt have time to have a dress made. She has an exact design, shape in mind that suits her but now we just dont know whether she should buy a similar dress at 70% of the price in mazaya or spend over her budget and buy the actual dress from one of the expensive stores.

Please can someone advise?

Hi Ladies..thank you so much. I have given the feedback to my friend..she is going to go back and try a few of her fav dresses in each shop and decide based on the feeling of the material and how it looks when she puts it on..Fingers crossed

Tip: the better quality satins and nets would be softer to touch. However depending on the style of the dress a stiffer net might be used to create a puff effect.

Just by feeling the dress you can tell if it's a pure fabric or it's mixed. My friend bought her wedding dress from Mazaya centre, and she looked great on the day and in all the photos. She just had the tailor add wider shoulder straps. The most important thing is it looks good, fits well and feels comfortable. If these three things are not met, keep looking. The biggest problem is with buying dresses online without seeing the quality of the dress and their is a chance the dress would be a poor fit.

Hi Hitch There is a difference in quality and Polly is correct. All official bridal retailers / agents must be approved by the designer and should be listed on their websites. Many shops will tell you otherwise in order for you to buy the dress. Price is based on many factors such as brand name , material, and where the dress is manufactured. Many dresses these days are made in China however it is down to the quality really in material which will also determine the price. Prices are generally set from the designer which is what they call " the recommended retail price" most aproved retailers stick within these guidelines. Stay away from ordering on line as well ! Most of what you see on line is fake unless direct from the official retailer. The shop you have mentioned does not as to my knowledge supply to official retailers. If in doubt ask them which ones and follow up! The wedding shop in jumerah and bridal Arabia in Abu dhabi are official retailers. At the end of the day you need to buy what you like and what makes you feel beautiful for the day! Regardless of the brand name! edited by Lundeva on 11/03/2015 edited by Lundeva on 11/03/2015 edited by Lundeva on 11/03/2015

Thank you Pollydxb for your advise. If there is anyone else who has had the experience with Ekaterina and Maria bridal dresses and can tell me if they do use good quality materials and if it is actually true that they supply to some other boutiques who charge double the price or around. Will be really helpful. Thank you.

I can't help exactly, but can advise you - that all the dress designers have approved agents who they sell through. If she has seen a specific one she likes from a certain designer, I would check to see if the Mayaza Centre place is mentioned on their website. There are an AWFUL lot of fake / imitation dresses out there, and if it is fake a lot of the dress fitters won't touch them!
