Got a text message from Dubai Police asking the driver to report to the Police. The fine is highlighted in red and cannot be paid online. Does anyone know what this means?????

Parked opp Spinneys Motor City where the gates to the autodrome are locked up permanently. There were about 6 cars that got a ticket. Such a big Spinneys and no parking anywhere. There is a huge underground free parking lot right next to Spinney's Motor City! There is a mssive parking but it's ALWAYS full when do you go ? i've been all sorts of times and there's always loads of space !! i understood that the red fines on the website mean that you can't pay online because you have to present your licence.... I will probably regret telling everyone this but I always park in the basement at Spinneys Car park at Motor City, never had a problem with a space and just get the lift back down with my trolley after shopping, so easy and saves you getting hot etc when the weather temp increases......... and car stays cool too! I always park down there too. There is always space and it's cooler. I know many who hate going down there because they can't seem to manuever the turn to get their in the first place.. :D

Possibly could be beside gates that are deemed to be an emergency exit/entrance - even though they are locked ( yes that's Dubai) hence why so serious?

can be points and/or impounding plus fine. parking? then probably not impoundment.....but word of advice, pay asap, as they will add 50dhs per (cant remember if its per day/week/month) after the 1st 4 weeks that you have a fine. PLUS, if you dont pay and u have outstanding fines on your car, if the police, for ANY reason, type your car registration into their machine in the police car (say if your badly parked, whizzing past or just for pure nosiness), if they see an outstanding fine, they r allowed to tow the car away....AND you get charged for the privilege! :) i was impounded last year (dont ask!)....and this was the advice that the rather helpful policeman gave me..... RTA by MOE is pretty stress free, so go there :) good luck x

Go to pay your fines just before Ramadan if you can (subject to renewal date allowing) often fines are lessened and the time impounded shortened. Just make sure you pick up when you are supposed to ( don't go on holiday when its impounded) you will get fined overstay!

I guess it depends whether you are obstructing entrances and other cars, that the fines will be higher.

I had a ticket once and it was 200AED. I parked outside a Mashreq bank in what looked like a parking bay, off the SZR near the Zabeel roundabout. What's with the different levels of parking offence and fines?

I got a ticket for a parking violation (partly parking on what was allegedly a pavement) and couldn't pay online. I didn't have to go to the police, just the RTA in person (i went to the one near Mall of Emirates) and paid a 400 dirham fine and had 3 points added to my licence. Just make sure you have the right money as they don't have change. I really doubt you would have your car impounded for a parking violation.

THey won't impound your car. It just means you have a big fine coming your way for illegally parking and the black points on your Dubai drivers license.

Or You will be fined and the black points will go against your drivers license, not the car. That is what happened to me when I was wrongfully nailed for parking in the dirt in front of our apartment in Tecom. It was a 1200 dirham fine and 3 black points on my license. Both were removed after we got a letter from the apartment building stating it was their private parking lot and it was under rennovation when the officer came along and ticketed cars every day for a week. <em>edited by bornconfused on 23/03/2011</em>
