DS is on his feet and I am off to get interlocking mats at Ace this morning so that my heart won't stop every time he pulls himself up at the furniture. In your experience, whats the best colour to get - I don't want them to look dirty and grubby or show up every mark or crumb.

Agree - I also read a few articles a few months back about the toxic levels of these playmats and that most EU countries have withdrawn them for sale. I remember them saying that the levels reduce with age so maybe best to buy 2nd hand ones (which often come up on Dubizzle etc) - I remember ours smelling quite potent when we first bought them... although they are very handy. You can get natural (stone) coloured ones that dont fade much by the way...

I picked up a magazine recently in a farmacy in France and I read an article saying that here they are being banned in 2012 due to toxicity. A number of European countries apparently already banned them. We had my DDs room fully tiled with those, imagine my surprise.

Say away from the yellow and go for the darker green rather then the light one. At a later stage you'll probably move them outdoors. And the light green and yellow look grubby very quickly. The ones that have held out the best are the purple, dark blue and dark green. The red is ok, but faded.... From being outside, inside-it was fine.

I'd go for the primary colours - red, green, yellow & blue. Had them with my 1st & found that they wipe down well if they get dirty.
