As I am bored with TV I thought I would download some good one-off Dramas and thought it would be good to have a thread with what people liked to give me more ideas. These are the few I have got:

Cathy Come Home
1966 - Story of a Northern lass making her way to london, meets, marries and has children and goes through the despair of poverty. Award winning

Recovery
2007 - This traumatic yet sometimes humorous one-off drama explores the experience of brain damage and its impact

Caught on a Train
1980 - As a young businessman(Michael Kitchen) travels through Germany on a crowded night train he encounters a demanding elderly Viennese lady, Frau Messner(Peggy Ashcroft), in the same carriage. Over the course of one equally nightmarish and moving overnight journey, she has a profound and unsettling influence on the young Englishman.

Goodbye Mr Chips
2002 - Feature-length drama chronicling the life of a much-loved schoolteacher at a public school in the 1920s. Mr Chips finds teaching a tough job at first, but on finding love he gradually becomes a kind and gentle tutor adored by all who know him

A Short Stay in Switzerland
2009 - Julie Walters in the moving true story of Bath doctor Anne Turner. Having watched her husband suffer a slow, undignified death, she was diagnosed with a similar neurological condition. "Rotten bad luck," her character muses. Walters plays Turner as the best kind of frank, feisty, upper-middle-class mum. "Let battle commence," she cries as she sets about taking on the illness she knows is incurable, but she soon decides she should be allowed to take her own life with dignity, even if UK law doesn't allow "assisted dying".

Threads
1984 - One of several television dramas on nuclear issues broadcast in the 1980s

Stephen Poliakoff has written some really good one off dramas (The Lost Prince, Shooting the Past, Almost Strangers, and lots more).

Will do - watched Thread last night. Bit outdated about a nuclear bomb across the UK that wipped most people out and the survival (or lack of it) years after. It was watchable though, although on the 'dark' side. Not a drama to uplift your spirits.
