I usually stay in Hilton Orchard Road or Conrad which are fine for business trips I second the Scarlet it is worth the visit and it is in a traditional Singapore 'shophouse', haven't stayed there but lived around the corner from it and the area is great for walking around and safe at all hours of the night. Fairmont/Stamford are great for location/views and for the MRT. If you are looking for something a bit cheaper Merchant Court hotel is ideal and close to the Clarke Quay MRT station. Marina Sands looks amazing (haven't stayed there) Have a great time!!

If you don't have kids travelling with, I would suggest this one. It's located near China Town. I very hip and happening place... http://www.thescarlethotel.com/

We've stayed at the Naumi twice -- a smaller boutique hotel, good location, just down the street from Raffles, with lots of restaurants and shopping close by. Staff is attentive and efficient, breakfasts are great, and there is a pool on the roof too! www.naumihotel.com

Just got back from Singapore this morning, can highly recommend the Marina Bay Sands, it's amazing! The pool on the top of the hotel is out of this world! Possibly the best place to take pictures of Singapore from... Facilities are great, although the Spa isn't open yet, but they do have other recommendations (Fullerton Hotel on the other side of the Marina). The hotel also has a shopping mall attached (somewhat like Wafi, 95% designer shops) and a 24hr casino (didn't have time to check it out unfortunately)...Staff very helpful and rooms are a decent size, but would def recommend requesting a higher floor for the best views....

I would recommend Swissotel, Stamford. Its just beside Fairmont. You can also get great views and the rates are cheaper than Fairmont! City Hall MRT is very convenient. Everything is underground. You can walk to the Esplanande, Marina Square Mall, Suntec City etc... without getting wet if it rains. Orchard Road is only 3 MRT stops away. Shangri-La is a bit out of the way and Marina Bay Sands(MBS) is too far to walk. You can take a short cab ride to MBS from Swissotel Stamford. Have fun and enjoy all the food!

I personally like Fairmont Singapore as it is just above an MRT station (City Hall) and Raffles City Shopping Center. The prices are reasonable as well from 300 SGD and up. Internet acsess is automatically complementary if you sign up for the President's Club membership. Have a great trip!

Hi Fairwater, sure can recommend The Mandarin and the Shangri La (preferably the garden section). Enjoy Singapore!

Never been but whenever I plan to travel I do a combination of booking.com review search and a quick look at tripadvisor... hubby uses skyscrapercity.com to get a feel of the city and such from travelers and residents, not a touristy site so to speak but he finds it pretty useful

The new Fullerton Bay, with the view of Marina Bay. I second the Pan Pacific too.

I've never stayed but Marina Bay Sands looks great - google it to see their amazing infinity pool high in the sky. I stayed in a club suite at the Pan Pacific and it was great, lovely suite and great service. Singapore is pretty easy to get around (as long as you are not looking for a taxi in a dowbpour!), they have a very efficient metro system.
