Our maid went home in December for her annual leave (she only started with us in April but as she hadn't had a holiday in 3 years we let her go home for Christmas) and she has now told me she is pregnant. She is married and has 2 children back home.

Her visa expires at the end of April so we are thinking that we will just not renew this as she will have to go back to the Philipines to have the baby in August/September. We would then just pay for a one way ticket for her to go home. Does this sound reasonable or is there anything else we need to think about?
Also is she allowed to go the government hospitals here for her checkups, she is married so I'm hoping this wont be an issue?

We are so happy with her and will give her a great reference, she is totally devastated as I know she can't afford to support another child so I want to make sure we do the right thing.

Thanks very much, that makes sense. We thought it was probably best that she goes home earlier rather than trying to work later in her pregnancy. I am also pregnant with our second baby but will def give her a few things before she leaves, we are just so sad to see her go and now on the look out for a new maid to start with us from April/May.

Hello, That sounds reasonable to me. What a shame for your maid. I had a similar situation when my unmarried maid got pregnant here in Dubai. She hid it from me for as long as she could (baggy clothes etc) but we agreed she would go home when she got to 5/6 months because I was scared she could get not healthcare here as a single woman. Well, I had my private GP examine her but he refused to leave a paper trail of any sort because of the situation. On another note, once I knew she was pregnant, I felt terrible that she was doing manual work for me so in the end, it's probably best that yours goes home sooner rather than later. If you could afford to give her some sort of bonus when she leaves, or any unwanted baby gear, I'm sure she'd appreciate it. Bella
