Please advise, we tried to give him water in between feeding, pear juice, (prune juice - he actually hates it as he vomits everytime we give it to him) and changed the formula from Promil Gold to Novalac IT.

Any advice is much appreciated!

hi.. iwas just going to ask the same question, i had the same problem with my 7 month baby girl, many people told me to try prune babyfood and juice but i can't find it ... do you have an idea where ican find it?? just buy some dried or tinned prunes and mush them up! Tinned would obviously be better for mushing, but if you can only find dried, then simmer them in a little water to soften them and then mush. Saying that, prunes aren't a complete guarantee. I have an iron stomach and they have no effect... I can quite happily chomp through a whole kilo! edited by Hello.Again.Kitty on 10/04/2011 thanks for your reply , but i'm new in dubai do you know where i can find the dried or tinned prunes?? most supermarkets have them.

(ETA - oops...just realised you've answered my questions below already! Sorry. :) ) I apologise if I've missed this, but is your little one breastfed or on formula? Has he literally not done a poo in a month or does he get constipated between poos? Is he uncomfortable and unhappy? I have a good friend who's breastfed baby did a poo only once every three or four weeks. While that's pretty unusual, their Dr decided that was just her 'normal'. The baby was not uncomfortable and was thriving in every way. When she did go, her stools were absolutely normal. Just particularly efficient use of the breastmilk! ;) Of all the suggestions below, glycerin suppositories had the fastest results for us when my son had troubles. They are safe, easy to use and they work. I hope all is well. :) edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011 edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011

Our paed recommended a little 'lactulose solution' (natural laxative) for our DD when we faced that issue at 6 months. Just a little to be added to her milk, juice or water.... worked wonders .......speak to a doc about it or a pharmacist. Also try some freshly squeezed orange juice (no pulp) about a couple of ounces a couple of times a week.

I have just read about adding a teaspoon of fresh smooth orange juice with water (boiled) and that is meant to assist in getting things moving - it seems that some dr.'s and HV are recommending it in the UK. That or Sugared water - half a teaspoon of sugar in 120ml of water! :)

try a glycerine suppository - you don't use the whole thing on a baby though....just cut off a slither...works a treat....I had to do it out of desperation for DD, as nothing else had worked.

please try the biocare baby probiotic available at organics supermarket- about 1/2 a tsp mixed in yogurt everyday and you will see softer better stools as it is beneficial probiotic bactreria that helps in digestion. its importantant for babies that it should be bifidus only so even though it is a bit expensive use the baby one first followed in month by the strawberry or banana flavoured child one.you will see dramatic results. My kids are fab poopers (sorry TMI) and DS2 has been on the probiotic regularly as it helps with his exzema. Been a lifesaver and cheaper than ped visits in the long run....and not a med so only beneficial.

I'm no fan of meds and suppositories, but if he's passing blood and crying, and doing so for weeks, AND that nothing else seems to be working, then it's time to give them, bless him.

Thanks Girls for all your advices. We actually brought him already twice to different pedia, one gave only fruit diets such as plums, pears... other one gave us dulphalac & glycerine suppo which we never tried yet as as much as possible we want to avoid med for him as he's too young :( We also changed his formula. Still he's difficulty passing stools, sorry for the confusion but i mean he's constipated for almost a month now but still pooping every other day... but it's really very hard that some times theres a blood in it and he's cryinh... :-(

so he's literally not poo'd for a month? Nothing?! If that's the case, it's probably time to take him to the dr!
