Ok to board

My co has invited some people from India and I’m arranging their visas. Now they advised me they need an “OK to board”. What is this exactly? Is it required even with an electronic visa? And do I really need to go to the airline office or can I send the visa/flight details by fax?

Many thanks!

desertrain- contact the travel agency that booked the flights. They put a remark into the booking file for each passenger- takes literally seconds to do. Good luck Thought about that, but these people booked their own tickets. OK to Board had to come from here because we arranged the visa here... Anyway, it’s all done now. Lesson learned: no Air India or book through travel agency :)

Thank you all for the info. I ended up going to their office anyway as they kept telling me over the phone. Couldn't take any risk as they're coming over for a company training :) Will tell all future visitors to not travel with Air India!

Right, I'll do that! Why isn't Air India able to provide such information?! Air India is govt run and hence very poorly managed! every time you will call them you will get different responses for the same question!! "ok to board" means that the passenger has a valid visa to land in the country and airlines won't let one board if they are not carrying the original visa or it should be deposited at the airport atleast 6 hrs prior to the departure. I was in same situation when a relative had come here in sept 2008 by air india and we had done the visa here!! We ended up depositing the visa at the dxb airport. AI are confused people in general! And simply make you run around like it is in govt offices in India. edited by presam12 on 12/04/2011

Now I’m totally confused :s I have arranged electronic visas, as far as I understood, they do not need to be dropped at the airport (that’s only in case of a normal paper visa). The passengers just need to take a copy with them. But, they said, they are not allowed to board if I don’t get the “Ok to Board” from Air India. I should be able to get that when I go to their office with visa and ticket copy. I just spoke to Air India, and depending on the place of departure, it’s a different airline office (yes imagine that... ). And of course, our guests come from different cities so not only do I have to go to one office in Maktoum, I need to go to the Fish roundabout as well! Only in Dubai... Good thing is I’m off for the rest of the week, so I can start fresh on Sunday with driving to those crazy places :D Desert rain, ok to board is irrelevant to visa. You do not have to go around the town. Ok to board is to be issued by the airline/agents and inserted in airline system. Approach the travel provider (on email) with the flights details and simply request for ok to board to be inserted in the system :) ETA: contact the international leg airline for ok to board. Dont bother with the local one. edited by JoannaS on 12/04/2011

it's applicable to countries who do not have visa on arrival, hance have to pre arrange. You have to submit the original visa at the airport here which the passenger will collect before eye scanning (they should have a copy with them earlier to clear immigration in India) or the passengers have to carry the original with themselves that you will have to send by courier/post. You need not go to the airlines office. ETA, charge was aed 20 per visa deposit at the airport 3 yrs back! edited by presam12 on 12/04/2011

Desert rain, ask the travel provided/airline which book the flights to issue ok to board and to enter it in the airline system. You may also request for a copy and give it to Indian visitors so they have it on hand in addition to the visa. They should not need really need an 'ok to board' as they will have a visas on hand. Good luck.

You'll have to go to the office of the airlines your guests are using. Just tell them you need the stamp, and they should do it within a couple of minutes. I suppose you could send them a fax too, but it'll be easier and will take less time if you go yourself.
