Not sure how to even write this post. My 21 year old stepson is here on holiday on a visit visa. He would like to find work for a few months, perhaps until Dec/Jan, then go to UK to join army. Have looked at jobs on Dubizzle but just wondering if they sponsor him, and he decides to leave before then, will he have to pay back visa?

However, if he does find something he likes, he is keen on staying on in Dubai.

TIA

Unfortunately, as others have mentioned it is highly unlikely. It would have been more possible if he was on father's sponsorship, but as he is 21 this is not an option. (girls on the other hand can be on fathers sponsorship regardless of age) Temp and part time work is definitely becoming more popular in dubai, working in recruitment we have all noticed this trend. There is the possibility of very casual work, when i was here over a summer holiday whilst still studying, I worked at a nursery school simply by calling up and explaining that i wanted to work, and continued to do visa runs for the duration. This is risky for the employer and employee though and i wouldnt "recommend" it as such, but it is possible. Obviously there are no benefits though such as medical so that would be a cost, plus AED 200 every time for visa run, would probably not be worth it.

It is really hard for youngsters to find work here unless they know someone who knows someone. Most companies look for candidates with x amount of experience who is going to remain with a company for at least 5 years!. Part time roles are very few and between and although i had Saturday and school holiday roles they don't seem to exist here due to the visa regulations. It is a shame really as it stops them getting bored whilst earning some pocket money..

Hi TurkishDervish, I think your Step Son will be hard pressed to find a company willing to go through the cost and effort of sponsoring him for 5 months work. If he doesn't disclose that he's only staying for 5 months, I'm pretty sure he'll be liable to pay back his visa costs with most companies if he decides to leave as it is a term in many contracts.... Thanks for that, this is what I said as well. I think it is probably better to look for part-time in UK so he has some pocket money before starting the army.
