Is it illegal for a maids husband to live (not work) with us?

Just as I am starting to get over the stresses of having to tell my maid that she can't work part-time for anyone else, I head down to the Security Office at Arabian Ranches to register her and her husband, who is also living with us, for their security cards. She is sponsored by us, so all fine there. He is sponsored by a maintenance company (who issued a letter to him saying he works for and is sponsored by them but lives with his wife in our home). The Emaar Security Office tells me that it is illegal for him to live with us and we will be fined up to 100k dhs if he is living with us. I explained that he is not working for us, just living with his wife. The security man said he can visit (overnight also) but can't "live" with us. Is this just Emaar getting confused with the rules or will the police decide themselves that because he lives with us, he must work for us and fine us anyway...

I am happy with the situation as they are both nice and quiet but the red-tape is getting a bit stressful. We have only just started her visa and don't want to chuck them out on their ear. Does anyone know the answer to this and does anyone know a good lawyer?!!!!

As always, your help is much appreciated!!!

Seriously wish I had asked you guys first....its a minefield out there!!! The maid should know better. People in our estate house married couples (not sure if the husband is on their sponsorship) and the husbands are kept busy washing cars, walking the dogs of the neighbours...

Any suggestions as to what I should do??? Where is he supposed to live??? Do I just have to start from scratch? Feel like such an idiot!!!! his company should be providing him accomodation, if not then a living allowance, they probably do provide this but he keeps it and lives for free with his wife ;) Tell them straight, she can stay, he cant. Better yet, dont go ahead with her visa, seems theres been a lot of issues before you even sponsored, may be a sign of things to come? Sorry, Im bitter and twisted after 2 very bad maid experiences, lol. perhaps she is great, then keep her and make it clear husband can only visit. Edit to add, they are not your children, they are grownups, its not up to you to sort out where he lives, just sit down with them and calmly explain that he has to move out and why. edited by Purple on 18/09/2011

Silky, Sorry to hear your plight. All domestic servants, are just that in this country, servants. They do not enjoy the same rights as those who are employed under the labor office. Right or wrong, this is the law and there is no point, at all, in taking legal advice. It is quite hard to prove that couples from the sub-con are truly married, due to fake marriage certs etc, and also the govt here do not like the idea of strange men living in the premises where there are women and children.

Purple is right. It is illegal for maid's husband to live in your house because you are not sponsoring him.
