I'm a bit of a technical retard but I have an iphone and it's asking me if I want to upgrade to the new operating system. Has naybody done that? Is it free? mOST OF ALL - I am worried about losing stuff on the phone - is there anything I need to do before I upgrade?

I did it! It's a whopping 750MB download and there are some battery life issues which will hopefully be resolved in the next release due in a week or two. I'd wait until the next release 5.1 or whatever. Back up your phone in iTunes before you upgrade - connect handset, open iTunes and right click on your phone in the left column and chose backup, just in case. Also copy any apps you have installed to iTunes. When you do the actual upgrade iTunes should backup and restore all your apps and data.
