Dear Mums,

We were recommended to look at these two schools for FS1 & FS2 for our kids. There's not too much info available on their sites but what I found there was a description of how they involve parents into a number of school activities - help in class, reading sessions, excursions, communication between school and parents, etc. From how it's formulated it seems that such help is not on a 100% voluntary basis but rather all parents are expected to contribute in one way or another. Is this really so? I am not sure I'd be up for the task and wondering if that would be considered inappropriate in such a setup - would I be doomed to be walking around with bad conscious and feeling like a black sheep?

Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot ladies - phew! ;) just kidding. A bit :) Not that I mind to help every now and then - but having an experience with a non-profit nursery here in Germany where we are actually expected to participate in various kind of events including e.g. gardening or cleaning days (on a weekend!!), not least because the nursery simply would not be able to afford to have it done without our help. We do it ofcourse but I'd be lying if I said we enjoy it. So as long as these schools' well-being and functioning do not depend too much on parental involvement and there's no pressure like you say - it's all good :)

Hi, We are at Horizon... and we two both work full time so are unable to dedicate time during school hours to help out with class activities... there is no pressure though and the school already has some amazing and dedicated mums & dads who help out whenever they can... For working parents, there is an opportunity to be on the PTA and help with some events through the school year but if ur not keen on doing that either don't fret! :) We love it here at Horizon... small community school feel where everyone seems to know everyone :)

It's totally on a voluntary basis. It's a win-win for the parent helper and the school, but there is no pressure to do so....or at least I'm too thick skinned to feel that there is any pressure to do so. You certainly shouldn't feel obliged or feel guilty for not helping. If you do get a chance and want to volunnteer, it's a great opportunity to see the classroom of children in action and an insight to the teaching....that said, I've so far not managed to do a reading or maths session yet but I've been wanting to.

Hi We are at Safa. Both parents work full time so we unfortunately dont get to participate in some of the activities you mentioned. The school understand this. All of these things are on a voluntary basis. We have a lovely class mum who volunteered to coordinate between parents and teacher for events etc. Dont worry
