Hi I would like to add a new driver t my car insurance with axa- Any idea what this involves? Just tried calling them but no answer.

Generally speaking, is the car only insured for one driver? Apologies for daft question, am new driver.

The named driver you sometimes have on your policy does not necessarily have to do with the car being sporty or being expensive.Our car is 7 years old, we only paid 60,000dhs 2 years ago for it but the repairs can be very expensive so hence the named driver restriction although DH and I are in our late 40s with quite a bit of driving experience. This year only, the insurance decided that the car could be driven by anyone above 25 years of age. Do check with the insurance. Today is a public holiday hence why you cannot get through.

Ok thanks busybee! I guess you're right that I shouldn't make assumptions re: car... will wait to speak to axa again. TIA x yeh to me a bmw can be classed as a sports car, obviously depending on the specs etc, if they class a ford mustang as one then who knows with this place. with the ford they couldnt approve it online etc it had to be a manager decision etc. you will just have to ask them etc.

Thanks for the feedback. Waiting to speak to axa before dh gets behind the wheel just to be on safe side. My car shouldn't be classed as a high performance sports car as it's just a bmw 5 series. Has anyone heard anything about needing an NOC for a third party to drive a car? I seem to recall axa mentioning this when I enquired a while ago. Cheers x only a bmw 5 series, are you serious it depends on the engine sizing etc, i have a ford mustang and its classed as a sports car and there is a bigger excess to start with and also you have to be approved, so young drivers would not get insurance etc and this is with axa. third party to drive a car, anybody can drive a car as long as you have had your licence for more than a year etc and that you are not very young, as its the car thats insured not the person etc like in the uk. it doesnt matter which name your car is in or insurance if you are spouse etc you can drive each others cars. i never had insurance here but when they brought the rules in ad here that the car owner had to be the name on the insurance which came in last year now they have to match here in abu dhabi. i have never had to prove any no claims etc although we have always been with axa and have been driving here for 15 years etc so thats proof enough!

insurance here is different to back home. here you insure the car plus driver, driver not being specific as long as they are above a certain age etc. Thats why anyone here can drive anyone else's car and still full covered. As long as your person has a UAE license, residence visa and over 25 yrs old, they are automatically insured when they drive your car. I'm also insured with Axa through HSBC and this is what i get from my policy
