Feel really daft, but I can't seem to figure this out!

DD will be starting Nursery shortly for 3 mornings a week! DH will do the morning drop off and I will do the pick up. What do we do re: car seats? Buy a car seat for each car? Use a booster seat in his car and have the car seat fixed in mine?

What do other Mums do who split the school drop off and pick ups?!

My daughter is over 2 1/2 and she is still happy rear facing, we have a Britax Highway from carseat.se. We have a second forward facing seat that we got 2nd hand for nursery drop off in my husbands car and she doesnt even worry about swapping between them. In fact she seems to prefer my rear facing seat because she can look at herself in the mirror! The belted seats are harder to install but they are rock solid and they feel really safe. I didnt bother with the coverting seat as I thought by the time she has been in this seat for a few years we will be ready to move onto a different booster type seat when she is around 4 years old. Plus this seat will be handed down to the next child (inshallah!) Im not sure about the particular car seat you mention, but i can tell you from what i read that rear facing belted is safer that forward facing isofix. So if your choice is of those, i would go with a seat that allows your child to rear face for as long as possible. I'm sure there are rear facing isofix stage 1/2 seats available though, you just need to check that the seat will work in your particular cars, as not all seats fit all cars. DD is only 13 months, but so far has no issues rear facing. She has rear faced since birth, and just sits looking out the window or gabbling to herself. She doesnt know any different really. If she made a fuss, i'm afraid i would just let her lump it, as her safety is more important that her being happy!

Sorry to drag up someone elses old thread but im also going round and round in circles trying to decide which seat is the best option!!! I have seen a new seat on the market by KLIPPAN, its on carseat.se, im only sold on the idea of it as it fits an Isofix and Non Isofix car, which me and my husband both drive. Its also Rear facing or FWD facing right up until 36kgs(i think i read) so acts as a booster seat for later years. Firstly has anyone heard of this brand or knows someone who has got the seat already? Also does your baby/child get sick or fed up of facing backwards, or dont you let it bother you if it means their safety is protected more? Is Isofix actually important anyway if most cars only have a belt it must be just as safe,is it? Any info or guidence would be great as its alot of money to fork out but you have it a long time so it should be the best choice, my head is actually spinning now with infomation overload......why DH gives me these responsibilites i dont know!!!

plumie i think your britax carseat will be clipped into your car with anchor belts attached to the seat infront of it (and with the main seatbelt where it is positioned). I suggest you buy a spare set of anchor belts, that makes moving the car seat from one car to the next much easier. However come to think of it with the heat here in Dubai I think I would rather just spend the money on a second car seat. Imagine attaching the carseat in your car in the summer heat, all while your child is roaming around waiting, either on the pavement or inside the car....I've been soaked with sweat myself just from clipping in three children in their carseats (when the carseats were already in the car!)

Just one last option! Some nurseries will let you leave the car seat there so if you have someone different dropping off and picking up then the person picking up can get both the carseat and the child at the same time. That is a great option, however I think the rear facing seat will be fitted into the car!? We still have not received our seat yet :(, but will have a look, if it's easy to transfer then that would be wonderful!

Kelly_C - yes 2011 was no doubt the fastest (and most exciting) year of my life! May look into getting a second hand one for DH's car I think this is your best option. As your DD is 13 months, the Graco Nautilus mentioned by SEY83 (I have this for DS1, and the only con is that it doesn't recline or offer neck support as well as the Britax car seats) won't work. Also, it's kind of impossible to find good quality rear-facing car seats brand new in Dubai (at least until Britax or its Australian subsidiary get an official agent/ distributor for UAE). Dubizzle is where I have found most of my car seats :)

May look into getting a second hand one for DH's car as it will only be used for 20min a day when he does the drop off! Thanks ladies - can't believe I did not think of this! we had to go with 2....a maxi cosi fixed in my car, and a Kiddy seat in DH's which is amazing for travelling as it's so light. how old is your DD? we have DS's Kiddy Infinity Pro for sale if you're interested, and his old Maxi Cosi Priorifix. DS1 has moved up to the next group (advice is not to use boosters until the weight/height limits are reached ie child should be 4yr and 18kg)

If your child is old enough for a booster seat then I would go with that option. Graco do a good one that has the booster seat but then also has a high back - the advantage of that is that you can thread the seat belt through a hook on the side so that when the child sits on the booster the seat belt doesn't go across their face. Then when they're tall enough to have just the booster seat, you can just remove the back. It's not too expensive (incomparison to full car seats), I think I paid about 280 Dhs from Baby Shop, just the booster was aropund 180 I recall. This worked really well for me and you can always ask to test it out in the shop as they usually have a fake car seat and will put the model onto the chair so that you can test it with your child sitting in it to see how it works. Eventually you will need a booster seat anyways once your child becomes too big for a full car seat.

If you can afford the extra seat, just get one. ;) It does make life so much easier. We have two children in anchored car seats and one in a booster so we have two car seats in each car and switch the booster if necessary. Friends of mine shared the pick up & drop off between husband, wife and a friend...they bought six seats for their two children. :D
