School pick up - options?

Any advice on services available for after school pick up? I work as a consultant so my work flow is irregular. I have two young children at nursery and school and a reliable maid who can look after them.

However, other than asking the maid to pick the children up in a taxi (which I'm reluctant to do without car seats and other safety considerations) I'd be interested in other options, even sharing pick up duties.

The school bus isn't available to us and I don't want to commit to a service like this every day, just on an ad hoc basis.

My children's schools are ten mins apart in Umm Seq1/Jum3 and we live in Jumeirah Islands.

Any suggestions?

Even if your driver is the safest driver in Dubai - it does not protect you from the moron driver's on the road around you. nail on head Too true. Your one moron away from an accident. Just saw a terrible accident earlier today on the airport road. The car was totally wrecked. The other car just had a big bump in the front. Terrible.

Many are not impressed with driving safety in this region :) There are companies offering drivers and some of them drive a bit more careful than others. Maybe other ladies can give you references, I do not have any (unfortunately)... Do you live in a compound? There may be other children going to the same school - put a note on the notice board to share the pick up. In the nursery / school you could also use the notice board; or ask teacher to give a note with each child (if their policy allows).

Thanks K3. I'm new here and I'm not impressed with the taxi driving so far :-) Do you know if you can book a specific driver if you find someone you trust? Or any recommendations?

If it's so irregular I'd just opt for taxi. How old are your children? From 18 kg+ they could go on a booster seat without back; this seat is very mobile, your maid could just bring the tow seats along to the taxi. Although it's cheap, rather light and simple, I've read that Graco backless turbo booster seat does exceptionally well in independent frontal crash tests. Edited: your maid could just bring the [b'>two[/b'> seats... edited by K3 on 16/01/2012

Nice idea, but as I work as a consultant I work for a range of clients on an irregular basis.

Do you have an office driver? Perhaps he can pick up the maid & carseats and then pick the kids up?
