Calling all Southerners!

I used to be able to find grits (5 minute or old fashioned) in Spinneys, then they stopped selling them, but I found some in Lulu and stocked up. I ran out awhile back but now I can't find them anywhere as Lulu's have not had them for ages either! I know Spinneys still sells the instant stuff in packets but it's gross and full of salt and flavouring.

My kids loooove their grits and have been asking for them every weekend. I tried polenta but it's not the same.

Can anyone let me know if you have seen them on the shelves?

TIA

Glad they still had them, Tigerlily. Thanks for that tip, anna-panna. I think I'll have to give them a try if only just to see how similar they are.

Have you tried the Maize Meal or Braaipap available at Spinneys? It is the South African version of Grits.(Pap means Porridge in Afrikaans). We eat it as breakfast or as a side dish to braaivleis (bbq) topped with a tomato-and-onion sauce - called Pap & sous or Pap & sheba. It looks (and I presume, tastes) the same as Grits.
