A small stone thrown up by a car overtaking at speed cracked our car windscreen this weekend. Does anyone know what the insurance procedure is when this happens? Have tried calling our insurance company but lines are busy and I think Ill get a quicker response via EW!

Thankyou Vixen1 - thats great. DH can follow up on this one for me ! And you are absolutely right - we didn't get the registration number of the car which sped past us and caused the damage!

You do need a police report. Best thing to do is take a photograph of the cracked windscreen. Then go to bur dubai police station, make sure you take insurance documents, car registration, driving licence, passport, may not need all of these but better to be prepared. you may need small amount of cash for the report. The police officer may want to go outside and look at your car to confirm that you do have a cracked windscreen but in my case the photograph was enough. They will ask you if you have the car registration number of the car that was overtaking you. As if! Anyway, am sure you didn't get their registration number. They will proceed with the report but think they have to ask you this as a procedure. They will then issue the report and you take it to insurance company. They will then tell you what recommended garage they will let you use. It will sit at the garage for a few days as they then send out one of their guys to confirm that this work actually is going to be done. Good luck. Had the pleasure of sorting this out for my husbands car once.

Thankyou Admin for the speedy reply. I thought we would still need a police report.

Think you still have to get a police report- you can go to any of the stations and then you can get it fixed through your insurance company. HTH
