Hi, I've recently learned that the trip to Satwa or Oud Metha is more worth my while, after waiting 3 weeks for Threads and Stitches (the one that fairly recently opened in the Springs) to alter some trousers for me. After a week and a half, they called to say that four of the eight pairs I'd taken in to the shop couldn't be altered. I collected these, and promptly took them to my more regular tailor in Satwa, who looked at me as if I'd grown another head when I suggested that the trousers might be tricky to take in. I will have those on Sunday. I went to collect the other four pairs at T+S, after receiving a text to say they were done. Of the four pairs, one fitted perfectly, but the others were a bit of a hash. I gave the lady who takes the money (DEFINITELY NOT A TAILOR) some money, and told her that, even though I knew it wasn't her fault, that I had waited for long enough, that the service was very poor and too expensive (double what you pay in Satwa) and that my regular tailor had taken the other pairs with no hesitation. She didn't know what to say. The short of it is, they're not recommended! On the other hand, Deepa's in Satwa is pretty good if you want either costumes or fairly plain things (they don't do fancy embroidery) and has easy parking. I'm also trying another tailor's shop behind Lamcy called Lily Duds; I know that at least one Dubai designer uses them, and make beautifully finished clothes. When I went in to get a Missoni-style dress made up, after I'd finished being measured and ordering, I ended up buying another one from a rack of already-made clothes that they sell in there, and I love it. They also carry and source fabrics for you if need be. Am looking forward to seeing my design, but also about wearing the one I bought!

The one opposite Lulu is Regal. DD has had alterations and copies done there and they have been OK. They also sell fabric, though obviously not as much choice as going to Satwa.

I notice there is now a tailor's at Springs Village Centre but I haven't been in - maybe someone else could give feedback on this one.

The one cafe_au_lait refers to is called Mega Stitch. It is beside the shawarma restaurant across DAA and yes, they're pretty good. Have always asked them to tailor fit shirts for me and have never been disappointed. Recommended them to my friends as well and they're all happy. There's also one opposite LuLu that my friend said is good, although I haven't tried them yet.

I use Panache in Al Barsha 1...they are on the circular road between MoE and the Dubai National School. Great for alterations and prompt.

There is a tailor across from DAA. At the lights at the intersection where you turn right onto the street with Lulu (if DAA is on your right hand side facing MOE) the tailor is on the left. I have had alterations done there and was happy with their work. Haven't had any copies made but you could give them a try with one item and see how it goes. edited by cafe au lait on 14/05/2012
