Glad you were able to find what you needed eventually :). Satwa sounds interesting, never been there for shopping.

Well I'm glad you managed to at least get something for your efforts A Rancher. I need to go to Satwa again, it's been too long, LOL. I've heard the top floor of Al Ghurair Mall is good for fabric too. I don't mind Dragonmart, but only go there when I have something specific to get - wallpaper, beads, cheap sparkly stuff, cheap shoes. But I've rarely had the time to go off the centre walkway as I can only get there when the kids are at school. Perhaps it's easier to bargain with the shops who don't pick up passing trade? And then I also keep thinking that what I'm paying is so much cheaper than what I would pay in Oz, I don't mind paying it so I don't tend to haggle with them...

Lily and BMAP, thanks for your replies. You were right that there was no nice fabric for a dress in Dragonmart. We got some feathers at the shop that sells the masks-they had some loose ostrich feathers and we bought some boas. We spent ages walking up and down Dragonmart searching for fabric but did manage to find a mannequin which dd also needs. We went to Satwa later and found a lot of shops with feathers and of course beautiful fabrics. Every time I go to Dragonmart I say it's the last time as it's really so horrible there. Most of the people in the shops seemed so sour and bad humoured and weren't interested at all in bargaining! What was amusing was looking at the names of shops and then seeing what they sell - names don't seem relevant at all. There was a shop with power equipment in the name that sold only t shirts. I might go back just to get some funny pics, especially of the Moral trading company! Satwa is so much nicer even with the heat. The shop keepers are very friendly and helpful and actually seem to like the whole bargaining thing and interacting with their customers.

I'm probably too late, but I think you would have a better chance of nice fabric and feathers at Satwa. There are shops there that sell boas and loose feathers. The fabrics I've seen at Dragonmart have all been for curtains, but then I haven't gone looking for dress fabrics. The shop that sells the angel's wings and carnivale masks doesn't sell loose feathers from what I recall. The craft shop in Beach Centre on Jumeira Beach Road definitely sells loose feathers (ones qith quite thick quills though so it will depend what you want them for as to whether they're suitable) and Craft Land (quilting shop) in Town Centre on Jumeira Beach Road will sell decent cottons, but not necessarily "dress" cottons. The 2 centres about about 1 - 2 kms apart.

From what i remember if you park near the last gate, you will probably enter the GB or HA section of the mart. The fabric section is fairly near that. Mind you, most of the fabrics are just curtain material. I only remember seeing one shop that used to sell clothes fabrics like silk and such, don;t know if that is still there. For feathers i remember a shop which sells angel's wings made of feathers and some fancy masks that have feathers attached to them. Maybe they sell feathers , but i cant be sure. HTH

Are there any shops selling nice fabrics at Dragonmart? If so, in what area are they? Also can we buy feathers there? Dd needs them for school. Thank you.
