Hi ladies,

Weve been battling with LO's eczma since he was 3 months old. Hes on neocate and has nothing else in his diet. His ezcma which started on tjust his shoulders has now spread and the poor guy has it all over his body :(

I've tried cleaning his clothes in just water (60c), eliminating all soaps and bath products, oatmeal baths, lipobase and even the steroid cream but I dont want to use that cream anymore. His excma is all over his body if I started using the steroid cream i'll have to use it everywhere and I've read alot about this cream not being a good idea.

This morning I discovered his back totally covered :(

Can anybody please recommend a good dermatologist who may be able to help DS please?

Hi, I second what coffeebean says. Shea Butter is the best! My daughter developed really bad eczema when she was 3 months old and the only thing that helped was changing my diet (she was being strictly breastfed) and keeping her skin moisturized with shea butter. You have to be religious about it though and you also need to make sure you aren't using any cleansers that are drying the skin out further. I bathed her often with an oatmeal bath and used the shea butter at EVERY diaper change (yes, about 7 times a day!). I cant say it would have worked on its own though. I had to completely remove ALL dairy from my diet. She's five now and every once in awhile I see her scratch and I have to re-emphasize to her that we ALWAYS use shea butter every night after her bath. I highly highly highly hiiiiiighly recommend shea butter!

Hi Dubai City Chick I don't have a dermatologist in Dubai to recommend but as someone who has suffered very bad eczema since childhood, I do have a non cortisone based cream to recommend. It's made by an Australian company but you can buy it online and have it shipped here. The company is called Moo Goo and if you google them, you can read lots of reviews from people who've used their products. Their products are all natural and don't contain nasties like paraben, mineral oil etc which can further irritate sensitive skin. I use a whole bunch of their products as I have super sensitive skin and lots of allergies but I specifically use their Eczema & Psorisis balm for my eczema. I have no connection to the company (other than being a massive fan as their products have worked so well for me) and have recommended their products to friends. I'm massively anti cortisone based creams and ointments as the side effects are no good and they're not recommended for long term use (some of the skin on my hands from where I used to repeatedly apply cortisone creams as a child is now permanently a different colour to the rest of my hands). I've found that my eczema is better in Dubai than in Australia where I'm from but it does flare up every now and then. I'm sure you already know things like not using normal soap on your son's skin, not bathing him in water that's too hot etc etc. Probably wise to see a dermatologist but if you want to try a natural product, def google Moo Goo. Over the years, I have been given so many natural eczema creams/lotions to try by well meaning family and friends and none have helped except Moo Goo's Eczema balm. Hope your son's skin gets better!

The creams mentioned below ( cutivate, Locoid etc, ) all have the steroid hydrocortisone in them which has side effetcs like skin thinning over time. Yes they give instant relief, but there is a posisbility of the eczema coming back severe and in different places again. This is what happened to my DS and hence we switched with Homeopathy. It is a slow process but long term. For the regular creams we use the Mustella Stellatopia products - cream for moisturizing, cleaning cream for bath and milky bath to put a cap in the bathing water. Luckily havent had a break out ever since, touch wood. You also need to watch for signs which cause a break out, restrict to cotton clothing, avoid wollens etc..

Hi Dubai City Chick, My LO also had severe eczema since he was 3 months. I also took him to Dermacare where he was prescribed a mixture of creams that had to be made up at the pharmacy on Beach Rd. Once I got in for the first time with the Pediatrician I wanted, the Pediatrician didn't agree with the lotion mixture and has since changed it to something much more simple. We have been doing the following routine for over a year now and it has been wonderfully successful! I am so thankful to have found that Doctor. We use Cutivate for breakouts (which are very rare now), and we use Lipobase cream (what I would call lotion) twice a day (morning and evening) and nothing in his bath, except throwing some olive oil in the bath water about 5 mins before it's time to get him out. That's great news scorpion. I ended up saving the prescription just because it worked wonders for us. I do know and understand that the same thing might now work that well on another person. Dr. Ikramullah's writing on the RX is not the best to read so I'm sorry if I mispell some of the creams. So the first combination was 4 creams to be mixed up by pharmacist and used twice daily for a month: Urecare, Eurax, Lipotoase and Licoid. On top of that he suggested Mustella Stellotopia for one month or longer if needed. Also Fucidine cream and Alfacord for eczema in the creases for 2 weeks (this last part I was barely able to read) I've had this Rx since 3 years ago. Hope this makes sense and helps. Like I said this was something he prescribed not right away. We had to see him few times and then he put my DD on these stereoids. Good Luck! My DD was dignosed with Eczema a month back and as ususal the Ped prescribed Locoid which is the usual steroid they give in such cases. It did clear up but keeps coming back. So I moved to a homeopathy doctor where several of my friends have had their kids treated for eczema and its totally steroid free. Till now she is clear, but if this happens again I owuld certianly like to go to Dr. Ikramullah for consultation. Can you tell me what creams were included in the mixture. Do any of them contain steroids or antibiotics of any sort? If you recollect the names, at least I could google the contents before I decide to go to him. Thanks

He specializes in eczema and did wonders for us. He prescribed a mixture of creams into one. It's not just one name of a cream. I had to go to a pharmacy and they mixed it all together. I highly recommend him. He will explain to you how to deal with eczema in such young babies and how to take care of it. It can be overwhelming and heartbreaking seeing such distress on such LOs, but after you see him, you will feel better. Good Luck!
