Hi, i have 2 very lively DSs who can be very well behaved when they want to be, but equally can be v high spirited!! They are 3 and 4 1/2 so close in age, and they spur each other on. Sometimes i feel like i have absolutely no control over them and their listening ears are well and truly closed!! When we go out, we usually go through some rules ie how are we going to behave, but this no longer seems to work. Part of the problem may be that we don't go out all that often, as sadly i work full time, and our weekends are spent in more outdoors environments such as beach, pool etc (we actively avoid malls!) so on the times we do go out, there may be a certain level of excitement which prob doesnt help.
I have read many threads in the past that a lot of you seem to have well behaved children esp in restaurants etc...can you please share your tips?? Is there anyone you can recommend who can help with positive parenting, that actually works on boys?? Thank you!!

We also pack a small book bag for our boys (ages 4.5 and 6). Coloring books, maze books, hidden picture books, paper and markers. It really helps. Keep a bag packed all the time so you can just grab it on your way out the door. :-)

If my kids mucked up, it was mostly because they were bored - adults having their own conversations and nothing to do. So with my boys I would always pack a kit of activities that wouldn't take up much room but keep them occupied. They each had a little draw string bag with a drawing pad, activity book, crayons, play dough, their favourite toy car or steam engine (1 was a Thomas fan).

Lol! I have two boys at the exact same age. I also have 123Magic book which I ordered from Amazon when my first one was just a baby. I follow those rules and it works a charm. Its not always perfect but most of the time things run according to plan (I dont expect them to ever be perfect though ;). I get a lot of compliments on my boys behaviour especially when we travel to other countries. Another book that I also highly recommend for toddlers are ''How to talk so kids will listen". Sometimes its not what you say but the way you say it. I really think you need a child psychology degree just for bringing children into this world! Lol! ;)

I used to be a teacher for children of this age and I have recommended, time and time again, the book 123 MAGIC. Each and every parent who borrowed my copy either returned it because they went and bought their own copy or wouldn't return it because they just loved it! It takes effort, time, and commitment, but it really is a great strategy and a really easy read. Not sure you can find it here but I can absolutely say that it would be worth ordering. Good Luck!
