I cannot say enough nice things about the Hyatt Regency in Deira. So many food options, things to do nearby, a night club, the rotating restaurant, it's a lovely gem in the heart of old Dubai!
I think staying on the creek is a nice idea - it looks very romantic at night with lights twinkling etc. The creek area is great with the abras, souks, museum, bastakiya etc, only prob it is soooooo hot just now that any outside activities are hard. Another option could be to have a couple of nights in Abu Dhabi - an early morning kayak through the mangroves, visit the beautiful Grand Mosque,… it's only an hour or so away.
We are visiting Dubai during Ramadan and will be staying at the Sofitel for 8 nights. I thought of staying along the Creek or in that area for the last 4 nights to break up the adventure. My local friends think staying near the "city" centre/Creek area is not a good idea due to heat/dirt?? I think we will have had plenty of time to enjoy Dubai and might be looking to relax within an exciting hotel. Any thoughts and/or suggestions very welcome.

And I downloaded the Entertainer App..is it worth me buying a product for a 12 night visit? Has anyone found any issues with the App?
