Wow really!! how odd is that, so my father who hasn't lived with my mother for over 20 years should be responsible for looking after her??? The laws are barmy! This is so crazy ha ha :-(

I don't think divorce will provide eligibility, to my knowledge its only for one parent if the other has passed away. Best check with AMER on that as our case was on grounds of being widowed.

If you have the extra $$$ you can get a Freezone Trade License and get her an employee visa - they allow visas for over 60+. The cost for the whole thing is a lot though (40k easily!).

Just in case rules have changed in your favour since the time we went through it, you could call the immigration hotline to double check, they are always very helpful. Call AMER on 800 5111 http://amer.ae/New/ContactUsDefault.asp They are open 24/7

No unfortunately separated parents will not be allowed on parental sponsorship. Not sure why they place that restriction as its usually the mother who wants to join family here and you would think they would allow that at least.

Not sure if the rules have changed but the last time we went through this process it was required to have a minimum salary of 20k, a minimum of two bedroom accommodation, a letter from sponsors embassy or consulate attesting to the inabilty of the parent to support themselves and the sponsor being the only person available to them to do so. Documents such as salary certificate and copies of rent contract required. Health insurance may be necessary now too. It is only possible to sponsor both parents except if the other is deceased. A deposit of about 2k is required for each and the decision to approve is purely a discrectionary humanitarian decision which may, as it did for us, require a personal attendence interview. The first thing to prepare is the letter from the consulate, then take that with all the other docs and passports to immigration.
