Registration Fees for School Waiting Lists
Dubai schools are notoriously difficult to get a place in, this is because there is a lot of bureaucracy within the schools and places are reserved for certain individuals that meet the schools criteria.
Firstly many schools offer first choice placement to siblings of children who already have a place in the school. Secondly corporate debentures ensure that the children of their emplyees receive preference at a particular school. Finally personal debentures of individuals and families will ensure that the children get preffered acceptance into the school. Thereafter every other child will be considered for a place.

In February 2009, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) capped registration fees at AED 500 based on a rule issued by the Ministry of Education which provided a relief to parents as many schools previously charged up to AED 3,000 for their non-refundable registration fees. Schools were also prohibited from collecting school fees before the beginning of the month or semester.
It is common place for parents to register their children years in advance and registrations close up to six months prior to the new intake. Many parents turn to home schooling because they did not complete the registration in time or only registered at one school.
