Your Choice for Obstetric, Maternity and Neonatal Services
Since it opened in 2008, Mediclinic City Hospital has become the preferred provider of obstetric, maternity and neonatal services for women across the UAE. In fact, in the last 12 months, almost 3,000 women have chosen Mediclinic City Hospital to have their babies.

Mediclinic City Hospital lives by its motto, ‘Expertise You Can Trust’, and gives expectant parents the confidence they seek that they and their newborn will be cared for by a highly qualified team of international standard doctors, midwives and neonatal specialists.

Before and during the birth

Whether you choose one of Mediclinic City Hospital’s resident OB/GYNs or a community-based physicians who delivers at the hospital, you will be in safe hands. We offer comprehensive antenatal and maternity packages which cover all necessary tests and examinations, plus normal or caesarean births. For women who have a caesarean section, we have a dedicated c-section operating theatre and normal births take place in one of our state-of-the art delivery suites.

After the birth, you will be transferred to one of our comfortable private maternity rooms where you can take time to enjoy the first days of new parenthood. During childbirth and afterwards, you will be supported every step of the way by our experienced doctors, midwives and lactation consultants.

Mediclinic City Hospital also offers an eight-week antenatal programme which is designed to prepare new parents for pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. This covers subjects such as foetus development, nutrition, exercise, labour pain relief, birth plans, feeding options, newborn care and what to do when you get home.

You are also welcome to come and take a tour of Mediclinic City Hospital’s Maternity Department. These free tours take place every Friday between from 11am-noon and 4-5pm.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

If your baby is born prematurely or is sick, he may be transferred to our newly upgraded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Mediclinic City Hospital’s level-three NICU is now one of the largest in the private sector following its expansion from 12 to 27 beds. Comprising 17 Neonatal Intensive Care beds, two isolation rooms and 10 Neonatal High Dependency beds, your baby is assured the highest level of critical care available, should he require it.

A baby’s stay in NICU can be difficult, but it is also rewarding to watch these babies grow and progress day by day. At Mediclinic City Hospital we employ the latest in medicine and technology to give the best possible care to every baby.

We provide developmental care to minimise the stress of the NICU environment and enhance their physiological stability, protect their sleep rhythms and promote their growth and maturation. We also work hard to make parents feel like parents. We give special attention to bonding between the existing family and their new premature or sick baby.

Kangaroo care is a unique way to promote bonding; we give both Mum and Dad the opportunity to hold their baby ‘skin-to-skin’ with the assistance of a specially trained nurse as soon as their baby’s condition is stable enough. Our specially designed breastfeeding cubicles with massage chairs and TVs allow mothers to breastfeed or express in comfort.

The NICU also has a special education room where we teach our parents basic infant CPR, provide information about safe sleeping positions, prevention of cot deaths, breastfeeding and weaning options. We also offer scrap book activities where parents can participate in making a scrap book page; one for themselves as well as one to leave behind in the NICU.

These sessions are very therapeutic and also give parents the opportunity to read about parents and babies who were in the same situation and discharged. We also have a follow-up parents support group were parents meet after their babies are discharged. This group includes parents, nurses and doctors.

After you leave us

It is Mediclinic City Hospital’s aim to provide practical and exacting support for both parents and baby, even after you leave the hospital. Our free mothers’ support group, conducted monthly by our certified IBCLC lactation consultants offers advice and help to women who are trying to breastfeed their babies.

While the focus of these meetings remains the same - parenting and breastfeeding - each discussion is unique due to the ever changing mix of participants and their needs. Mothers can benefit from information and support to suit their individual circumstances, and also find it helpful to share their personal experience and helpful tips, while learning about baby feeding and nutrition from the experts. The lactation consultants are there to answer questions, allay fears and give reassurance. Of course, babies are welcome to come with their mothers to these meetings!

In addition, we have physiotherapists dedicated to women’s care who can help get back to your physical peak after childbirth, should you require some assistance.

And don’t forget our Paediatric Department, which is there to provide expert follow-up care for your child right from birth to his teenage years.
