Top Ten Skyscrapers
Sky Scraper Day is celebrated on the 3rd of September every year and is not only celebrated by architechts around the world, skyscrapers are also appreciated by everyday people like you and me.
A skyscraper is a tall, continuously habitable building of many floors, usually designed for office, commercial and residential use.
There are two terms that can be used for really, really tall buildings. The buildings that are over 300m tall can be refered to as 'supertall' buildings and those towering 600m and above can be classified as Megatall. Skyscrapers are characterised by a steel frame, curtain walls and large surface area windows.
We are lucky to be living in Dubai, the city that's home to the world's tallest skyscraper The Burj Khalifa, however we take a moment to appreciate all the skyscrapers around the Middle East and the world. Burj al Arab
This is the world's only 7-star hotel and the fourth tallest hotel in the world. The building is designed to look like the sail of a ship and is known for its iconic helipad on the roof.
Bahrain World Trade Centre
The 240 metre high tower is located in Manama, Bahrain and features 50 floors. The skyscrapper is the first of its kind in the world that inregrates wind turbines into its eloquent design.
Taipei 101 Taiwan
This building was once classified as the world's tallest skyscraper, today however, it has claimed the title of the tallest and largest green building in the world.
Empire State Building
The iconic Empire State Building is located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. The skyscraper stands at a 443 metre height and its name comes from New York's very own nickname, the Empire State.
Petronas Tower
The two twin towers were ranked as the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004. The towers are a landmark in Kuala Lumpur along with the infamour Kuala lumpur Tower.

Bitexco Financial Tower
This 68-storey sky scrapper is situated in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and is known as the tallest building in the country. The Bitexco Financial Tower stands at 262.5 metres high and features a helipad on the rooftop of the skyscaraper.
Grand Lisboa Casino Macau
Known as the most famous hotel in Macau, this building is a 12-story hotel tower that were built in 1970. With a total of 2362 rooms available, the hotel sits alongside the original Casino Lisboa.
The Shard
Located in London, The Shard is a 95-storey tower that stands at 309.6 metres high. Known as the tallest building in the United Kingdom, The Shard is the fourth tallest building in Europe and the 105th tallest building in the world.
Turning Torso
This futuristic residential skyscraper is the tallest building in Scandinavia. Located in Malmo, Sweden, the Turning Torso won the Gold Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2005.

Burj Khalifa
