This month: AED 13192.
We have discovered by DEWA yesterday when they came and told us we must have a problem with the water system because of the abnormal high comsumption of water. We always pay around AED 250 to 300 for water.

Also after inspection, DEWA and the maintenance service told us there is a leakage from the pipeline water system. I tried to call the LL but he like always never answered, he just cashes our money.

I'd like to ask if any of you have experienced with this trouble, can we force the LL to pay this abnormal bill and overall, how to get him fix this trouble because he doesn't answer our call and email. We had to stop the water and have no water for now.

what can we do to have contact with LL, can we call any hepline service, police??? We have 2 toddlers and would like to be able to clean them..

thanks so much in advance for your help and advice;

Hi Paris6 We are presently facing a similar problem to you and are going through the Rent Committee process right now. I was wondering if it would be possible to ask you some questions off-line via email about how you handled your own situation? Perhaps there are some things we can learn through your experience. If that's ok, would you mind dropping me an email at the following address: [email protected] Many thanks.

Our bill was 1200 this month for a 2 bed apartment! We have the air con a lot during the summer because our windows are useless so if we don't have it on constantly then our apartment gets damp - but we didn't have it on any more than in the previous month yet the bill was still around 300 dirhams more, it has been steadily increasing over the past few months - and having discussed with friends it would seem that everyone's bills are larger than usual at the moment. But I heard on the news on the radio yesterday morning that DEWA would like to inform everyone that they have received a high number of complaints regarding large bills but that there has been no increase in rates, they advise residents to be careful of wasting water and electricity. So it would seem that the whole of Dubai has suddenly become very wasteful ;)

Now its out turn finally, our dewa bill jumped by 418% without any excess usage. Last bill usage of electricity was 308 aed and the current one is 1288 aed which is 418% more electricity used by a family of four ? Just doesn't make sense. To make matters worse, the new Fuel surcharge is 7% of the bill which is 338 aed last bill we used surcharge of 88 aed!!!! Last month fuel surcharge was 6%, the moth before that it was 4%, and its gone up, why ? when asked to Dewa they say the fuel used to carry to the electricity stations goes up and down and so does our bill. I still remember our dewa bill used to 1/3 of wat it is now and increasing every year with surcharges. We have raised a complaint, but iam doubtful they will do anything, as they standard reply is either u have consumed or the meter is faulty. The customer service says even if you go to head office, they will say the same thing. So better pay or else ur line would be disconnected. Thank you for ur understanding !! edited by spring on 18/06/2011 We have the same problem. We have a large house, but keep the lights off most of the time and barely use the air conditioning. But our bill was nearly $1000 us dollars this month and last. My husband usually does the bills but he was out of town this month, and when I found out what it was, I nearly went ballistic! $1000 US dollars for electricity and water? Insane.

I was having regular priced bill then had a huge bill so off I went to dewa (could only deal with this at Wafi) and turned out they hadn't been reading the meter and guessing! then of course they turn up and read meter which caused a sky high bill as consumption was heaps I had to pay up and then a credit will come (which doesn't seem right but anyway) and by this time the next bill was out and guess what they had guessed again and guessing on the last huge bill so the water is mega usage. hopeless

EMRILL has been working for 3 days now, they discovered 4 leakages after having digged 1m down in the garage area. No wonder why the bill came up to over 13K. We are now waiting for the final bill.

That's one reason why we didn't move to the Meadows. We're in Umm Sequim too and it's apparent that people living in Jumeirah and Umm Sequim have much smaller dewa bills than those living in New Dubai. I wonder why.... Hmm we had a leak twice in our last villa. Second time it was because DH was checking the emter daily and recording on a spreadsheet. Regarding the first leak its was about 5000dhs and we had to pay, the ll just didnt care, just another reason why we moved out. As an aside I must say we have moved to Umm Sequim from Meadows and our villa is the same size and our water bill is less than half!!!!!

Our DEWA bill costs are starting to get to me. Last month it was almost 2300, this month around 2100 for a 4 bedroom in Al Waha. Our water this month was half last month but this month our electricity is double that of last month. I usually only have one of the A/Cs on during the day if that. Lights not on until dark, only thing running is the tv and occasionally the washer.

That is even more interesting! .This is an example of where we need easy access to metres to be able to read ourselves. I go around the villa we are in from time to time to spot leaks as we got caught for 5000 a few years ago. Yours must have been going for a long time. Good Luck Well can't not be because the bill of March was only AED 246 for the water, we have been in this house since last december 27, and the bill of Jan was AED156; February AED214; March AED246 and THEN suddenly April AED13192. Don't really know how we could use such a quantity of water even if there is a leakage. Other point I'm waiting also for DEWA to come and check the water meter because EMRIL had cut the water and the water meter is still running!!! So hope they will note this on report for our complain with DEWA. thanks again ladies for your support, fingers crossed now

Yours must have been going for a long time. Good Luck We didn't notice anything because the leakage is located underneath the garage floor, hence invisible. We just learnt the bad new yesterday when DEWA staff come to tell us. Before we had some trouble with the water pump but EMRILL came and fixed it. We had a lot of difficult to join the LL because he is away the country somewhere in India. We have no contact with him and only via the agency. We have been in this house for 5 months and already spent a lot of money to fix a rented house with our money since the LL could't be reached. We will try to see with DEWA what we can do, because the leakage is from outside the house.... hope they will accept to reduce the bill, otherwise I sent it to the LL and go to RERA if needed

OMG I feel for you - we had a similar, albeit not quite so bad a situation last year - we caught it at just under 4000AED worth of wasted water. However we are still waiting for the promised money from our LL....... We had to turn the water off at the mains until we located the leak and could isolate the pipework - DH sorted it all out in the end, despite the LL sending someone to dig up the garden. We turned the water back on every so often to fill the tanks back up. DEWA told us that if it was within the property it wasn't their problem and were therefore not interested. We withheld payment of that amount hoping the LL would pay us, but then had to start paying it over a few months - we ended up with DEWA cutting us off as the bill was outstanding and I had to pay off the rest of the balance owed to get it re-connected. I wish you all the best and hope you have better success with your LL and DEWA than we did.

My goodness, this is awful but if it is in the property you are in, how is it you did not see it or aware there was a problem ? I am gobsmacked ! thank you so much for your answer. I will put a complain on DEWA. I just called the estate agency and asked them to fix with the LL since they represent the LL when we signed the contract. yes, the leak is from the failed pipeline water I think, that was DEWA said to me and confirmed by EMRILL. DEWA staff came yesterday to tell us that we have a water trouble and shown us the bill. The man said to me that I will have to pay over 13K for this month and normally I only pay an average of EAD300. I called EMRILL and asked them to come and quote. thanks so much again, I'm just really stressed with all that because DH is away on biz trip and can't help except supporting me from far away.

so the leak is in your property? Put a complaint into dewa to say u refuse to pay etc and explain the situation. how much will it cost to fix? You can fix it and forward the bill on to th LL, as you cant go without water. Good luck
