We did this for our son a couple of years ago for USA. Al Fardan exchange (probably some of the other exchange houses) have a load it up card, either with name or without. We did with name and it took about 5-7 days to come. They used to be under the escalator at MOE near French Connection but have moved. Can't help for where they went!

The best way that I have found is with a FAIRFX 'mastercard'. You apply online for your card, in our case uk pounds to us dollars, then once you have your card (about a week), apply for a friends and family card for your son. Anyone over 14 can get a supplementary card. The card can be used at any auto bank machine which accepts mastercard, and any outlet that you can normally use a traditional credit card.

My 16 year old is going to the US on his own for a month and will need to purchase textbooks, academic supplies etc. as well as having incidental expenses. I would also like him to have some money provision in case of travel emergencies and needing to purchase another ticket if he misses his flight! I don't want him to be responsible for huge amounts of cash in shared college accommodation with no safe facilities though. Any suggestions what the best way of sorting out money for him would be? He 's going to be restricted to the campus so it might be difficult for him to get travellers' cheques cashed at a bank and our bank won't offer him a credit card because of his age. Thanks for any advice or suggestions. I used to bank with RAK bank and they had a bling card where you could load them with cash and give them to family members. Perhaps your bank has something like this. They are usually Cirrus cards so can be used all over the world https://rakbank.ae/wps/portal/retail-banking/cards/prepaid-cards
