Hi,

We are looking to renew or rental contract on our apt for another year and our letting agent has said that the agency will charge a renewal fee of 2500 aed or 2% from rental value whatever is more.

Is this normal?
We have never renewed b4 so I just want to check!!

Thanks

My agent wanted to charge 1000AED, but i queried this, especially as my rent had increased. i was lucky and my landlord agreed to pay it for me. However a friend of mine (with smaller house) was being charged 2000aed by their agent... he's negotiating with them. It really does seem unfair when you consider what little work the agent has to do when renewing.

Some agencies/landlords are asking for AED 500 to draw up the new contract, for typing a few words even that is extortionate but 2% or AED 2500, that is daylight robbery. Please don't pay up!

nooo!! no need for agent. just sign with landlord direct. landlord should buy "contract" forms (blue, A4 size, cost 1 AED/sheet) from any "Typing" shops, you both sign, get two witness, then landlord should register it with rera. all cost by landlord, but if you want you can also spend the 2 AEd on the forms, haha. agencies are desperate for money as they do not have enough business. ouch. edited by dentro on 25/07/2011
