American teacher in UK curriculum schools?
I'm an American teacher, educated and trained in elementary education in in the US, but since moving to the Middle East I've preferred British schools for my kids and would potentially like to work in them myself instead of American schools. I know this may seem like an unfair generalization, and I know it's not always true, but I've seen that many families in the ME choose American schools because they're perceived as being easier/less work and stress, and that seems to have a big impact on the "culture" of students and their attitudes and school expectations overall. And I've come to prefer the key stage assessments that monitor and guarantee implementation of the national curriculum, rather than the variable and unpredictable curricula of many American schools. Opinions aside, if that's what I want to do.. has anyone heard of an American teacher being employed in a UK curriculum school here?
I'm only interested in working in the UAE or Egypt, since those are the only places we expect to live for the next 10 years or so -- I'm not trying to be able to work in the UK itself. Depending on whether British schools here require a PGCE and/or QTS, I've seen some convoluted routes explained on the International Schools Review forums in which people have said that you can use a US teaching license and experience to apply for QTS in the UK.. if a PGCE is needed, to get an iPGCE, use it to apply for a US state license, and then use that to apply for QTS in the UK. Does either method sound like it might work? (Look for the thread entitled "need help to navigate certification process!" on internationalschoolsreview dot com to see it explained).
I'm interested to hear any thoughts!
