Yes thanks for the miso info....have been meaning to do a grilled fish that need miso and something called miren in the marinade....will chk out the organic store and see..
Mirin is a Japanese sweet cooking wine. You won`t find the real one in the local supermarkets because it contains alcohol. But Waitrose sells a non-alcoholic version in the Japanese food section. Beware that non-alcoholic mirin is often full of MSG, sweetners and chemicals. I normally use sweet sherry or even apple juice instead, or just add a bit of sugar to the recipe to compensate for the sweetness.
You can often find Japanese foods in Korean supermarkets (1004 Mart in Barsha) since miso, soy, [b'>mirin [/b'>(or very similar to it)....are used in Korean cooking as well. It`s also cheaper than Organic F&C.
Happy cooking:)

Thanks very much Wild Mint. I've got a recipe for an edamame dip that sounded delicious -- it calls for brown miso. I don't know much about the different kinds so I'll just take what I can get!
I buy miso paste at Organic F&C in Dubai Mall or TECOM. They have 3-4 different types of it, it`s natural, unpasteurised kind, which is very good for you...I love barley Mugi Miso paste it`s mild yet full of flavour and very versatile.
1004 Mart in Barsha has a cheaper option of Korean miso, which is pretty tasty but a bit more processed.
Hope this helps:)
Has anyone seen miso lately (not the dried version)? Searched and saw a few recommendations but some were up to 2 years old so wondering whether anyone has bought it somewhere recently?
Thanks very much in advance.
