I had a similar situation recently I went to the doc the 2nd day I was sick. She said she cannot go backwards, but in the comments she wrote the date from when I got sick. Maybe you could try that and it would be enough for your HR?

ATC54M, it's not possible to back date a sick note. I was off for 4 days a while back and when I went to see the doctor on the 3rd day he told me before I even had a chance to ask he could not do anything for the first 2 days, as he can't back date. He also told me the authorities are cracking down on the rules regarding sick notes as there has been a huge increase and that they are conducting investigations into certain medical practices for this. Interesting I thought - if the UK did this they wouldn't have so many problems! ;) Only other thing I could suggest for your situation would be to go back to the same doctor and ask them to write you a letter which explains you were completely bedridden during this time etc... And hope that works!

My husband was told no by our GP as it all has to now go through a certain site, they can't just scribble a note on their pad any more.

Well, no other Doctor would give you back dated medical certificate. As Polly said correctly, the best bet is the same doctor who was treating you as they have the record and no chance of that being untrue. Medical issued by doctor and medical issued by Ministry is two different documents. With above suggestion, you could get only the GP recommendation for rest a medical certificate in back date. Ministry certificate, legal by law, is not possible in back date. Good Luck.

I think the best person to ask is the GP and see if they will do it - it would depend on if they will at the end of the day, which as you say it is in the timeframe you were off, so I can't see why they wouldn't. You would have to pay for one.

I had leave booked off work last year when i had an accident and subsequent surgery just before. I had sick certificates at the start when I was in hospital and the last few weeks when I was able to visit the doctor. But I was immobile for three weeks in the middle so didn't get one for that period. I assumed that it would be OK but my company have deducted the leave days. My question is, is a back dated sick note possible? My hospital, GP and Surgeons notes at the time will detail my physical state for that period. Long shot I know, just wondering if it's possible! Many thanks in advance.
