I have a dhs10 coin from many, many years ago we got in change. Remember having it in my purse for years and many refused it as had never seen one at the tills in various shops, though didnt try too often as only had the one not a jar full. So been in a drawer somewhere now for probably a few decades.
The 1 fils (not fil) was a note, many years ago (I have some)
The brown coins, 5 & 10 fils, were apparently stopped a few years ago, but I still have a huge pot of them. I will try using them, but I believe that only banks will take them now.
Earlier today, my DH and I went to Citibank to close our car loan. Since we were already there, I decided to ask for some of the elusive and never before seen (by us) smaller denomination coins (1 and 5 fils) -and the teller said that 1 and 5 fils does NOT exist. Now either the central bank is lying, or the teller is not aware of the denomination money that she obviously handles everyday!......
i dont know what the fuss is about i have lived here long time they have always been in circulation, its just the likes of car4 etc that will not accept them, the likes of spinneys and abelas etc always have and always have some. its not 1 and 5 fils its 5 and 10 fils. the coins are the brown ones that are 5 and 10 fils and then you have the silver coins the 50 fils and the 1 fil. there is also the larger older 1 fil but that actually is an old 50 fil coin.
