I have been with NBAD for 11 years, never really had a problem with them. Online local transfers cost 15dhs and online international transfers cost 30dhs.

Too be quite honest, all the banks here are about as useless as each other. I have been here 3 years and my first bank account here was set up with HSBC as that was who my employer was with, recently moved everything over to Barclays, as they offered my 1 free international and 1 free local transfer, which was more than HSBC were offering. Depending on what you want to do, depends on which bank to go for. GL x

Of course you can choose your own bank but it does keep things simpler if you go with the same bank as your employer and it does help to keep things as simple as possible here. :)

We have, with one employer, had to pay a 70dhs fee with each salary deposit as they did not have an agreement with our bank. The other option was to take the salary in cheque.

I've had no choice in the 5 years I've been here...perhaps because I work for a bank though! Only one of my colleagues i know could have a different bank account, and that was because he had multiple loans with another bank so he was obliged to keep his salary there when he joined us. I tried to get my salary paid elsewhere (don't like keeping my money/private business in the view of my employer) and was told not possible by my HR team....the only option I had was to transfer the cash out ( which would be at a cost if I were not a staff member). hmm, ask labour ministry.

If you will be paid here, your salary account will most likely be mandated by your employer - whichever bank they use to process salaries. . not true, employers cannot mandate such!! they usually offer to use the same bank because 1. their representative will come to the office , no need to visit the branch 2. you get the salary sooner, transfering to other bank takes a day or two longer. But still, you have your free choice of banks, no need or obligation to go with the company's bank.

If you will be paid here, your salary account will most likely be mandated by your employer - whichever bank they use to process salaries. If you then use a different account for your transfers, you will probably pay to transfer to the other UAE bank account, and then again to transfer out. Probably best to stick with whoever your company uses if you are not planning to keep any cash in the account. If you have freedom of choice and are transferring to an offshore account with an international bank, it will probably be most cost effective to have the UAE account with the same company as your offshore account as then you'll have free international transfers to the offshore account. We use the one with four letters for this reason but all the international banks offer the same service on this. Personally I wouldn't be happy to recommend any bank here as they are all sorely lacking in the customer services arena, and you hear ok stuff and horrific stuff alike about all of them.

It is usually cheaper and easier to transfer money through the money exchange shopes which are all over Dubai. Are you not having a salary paid in? It is quite normal to use the same bank as your company as it simplifies the process. Hard to actually recommend any one in particular. :)
