I bought a pre-owned X3 directly from the showroom last year. Went to Abu Dhabi to test drive an X1, then the salesman showed me the X3 they had just received in the back. It's still under warranty. I've only had an issue with squeaking brake pads, which the folks at the Dubai showroom have been happy to address. Be aware that the X3 and X5 come in varying engine specs, and that diff showrooms have diff specs in stock. I found the Abu Dhabi salesmen to be more savvy than the Dubai salesmen (typical "yes-ma'am" talk). There's also a huge pre-owned lot at the Sharjah BMW showroom that's worth perusing.
Fiat500, my DH bought a new X5 back in 2006 and he had untold number of issues with that car, but I haven't had major issues with my 2013 X3 so it seems that BMW have resolved some of the GCC specific issues.
I love BMW's but would never have another one here as it was a bottomless money pit for additional maintenance. I had my X5 from new and it was serviced as per the manafacturers requirements , carefully driven, garaged and had low mileage.
Even under warrenty it was regularly in the dealership for annoying problems such as the air suspension failing, window interior mechanisms breaking and being stuck down (all 4 windows in 5 years), the steering wheel peeling back to plastic, the window blinds breaking, the dashboard screen having patches that did not work. This was just part of a long list. I was told by various mechanics that these are common heat related problems that the X5 has in this climate.
I have 2 colleagues who have had similar problems with their X5's and all of us decided it was time to move on!

Do not think heat is a factor as X3s and X5's are made in the USA and there are places as hot as Dubai there, and also most cars brought here are on GCC Specs.
I've had my X5 for two years, never had any problems with it. As with any car it's important to keep up the regular servicing/maintenance. If you don't want servicing/upkeep costs why not opt for a less expensive make and get a newer car from a dealer that has a servicing/warranty package? I had a new pajero in the past that was very reliable too. I owned it for three years it cost me nothing in servicing etc.
Hello everyone,
I'm thinking of getting a used 2009 or 2010 BMW X3 or X5 - anyone already knows if any dealers have good Ramadan deals? Or any good car finance options to recommend?
many thanks
hi Anna,
I'm selling BMW 2001 X5, balck colour, 20 000 dhs, very nice, clean, quick and safe. Let me know if you are interested.
Hi Anna I'm selling my X5

It's available preferably next Saturday or Sunday for transfer as it's in my husband's name and he's back then from his travels. Thereafter I'll have POA to sell.
I would go for an X5 and look on Dubizzle, Beamers usually are a good bet (have had various different models) and have friends with Q7s that are nothing but trouble, I'm prepared to be shot down in flames but only talking about personal experience.
Not directly helpful, but watch out for the mileage. I bought 2009 Audi Q7 which is kind of similar to X5, high mileage for this region (didn't think anything of it as back on UK, this wouldn't have been considered high mileage!) and it's been nothing but trouble, have spent thousands ok repairs in the 4months I've owned it.
