Yes there is an insurance office at the border. We got insurance there in Feb this year.
To cross through the border we needed evidence of insurance and the car registration card.
It's about an hour to hour and a half to RAK, depending on which part of Dubai you are coming from.
Probably half an hour to the border.
No idea how busy the border will be on a Sat morning. It was v quiet when we went midweek and they weren't exactly speedy!
From the border to Khasab is about 40 mins from memory.

We're heading to Khasab for one night and only have car insurance in Oman for our own vehicle (not 3rd party). Anyone know of we can buy this at the RAK border?
Also, how long is the drive from Dubai to Khasab, considering border crossing? Do you think the border crossing will take long on a Saturday morning?
