Had a word with DH. First off, check that the filter isn't blocked. Clean the machine by running with either bicarbonate of soda (1/2 to 1 cup) or Calgon in the water. ON NO ACCOUNT USE BLEACH. Check the machine has emptied properly and that no water is visible in the drum. If you can see water, the pump could be faulty. If you still have the smell, he recommends that you call out an engineer to solve it.

It has on several occasions stopped during the cycle with an f17 fault, I looked it up and and appears to be low water pressure, we are in the Ranches so could be or maybe there is a blockage in the pipe?

The door seal can be removed but I doubt that this is the problem. I would not advise anyone to try and do this themselves. Very good chance you would never be able to put it back yourself. We had a domestic appliance business in the UK doing sales and repairs and it can be a bit of a nightmare to replace it on some machines, even for an engineer. Get an expert if you want to do that. By all means make sure it is clean but, unless it is perished, there is no need to remove or replace it. Are you sure that your machine is draining properly and that water isn't being left in it to go stagnant ? Is the pump noisy when the machine is emptying ? edited by amelia on 25/08/2011

Green-ish, good advice. Vinegar or diluted bleach once every six months on 60 degrees followed by a quick rinse to make sure its all flushed away or you can buy Oust powder that is designed for this problem. The door seal can be removed but normally only by an engineer. Give it a good wipe every week and try to leave the door and dispenser drawer open a little to help circulation of air through the machine which helps with smells and stains. Checking the filter cover(small round cap at bottom) every few months is good but if it wont turn then don't force it as they can break quite easily.

Another quick question can you take out and put back in the rubber circular bit inside by the door? That looks like it could do with some attention, but don't want to take it off if I can't put it back. Usually the rubber seal cannot be removed. I give the seal on mine a good wipe out and make sure it's dry every time I finish with the machine for the day. I always leave the door and dispenser drawer open to get plenty of air in there. If your seal is a bit on the nose, give it a good wipe over with vinegar. About once a month I take the dispenser drawer out and give it a really good scrub (the drawer itself and the spot it comes out of). I also check and clear the access panel and pump filter like Shaks describes. Doing a full cycle hot wash (no clothes) with vinegar in the machine does do a really good job of cleaning it all out. edited by Green-ish on 25/08/2011

Or they say use dishwasher tabs. Be careful with bleach as it can damage the machine.

Maybe the filter need cleaning. At the bottom of the WM there is a small pannel you can remove and you should be able to unscrew a round plastic stopper. Just clean this and replace it then do a full wash cycle at the highest temperature with bleach in the place of washing powder. I do this twice a year and it helps

Run some vinegar through it on a hot wash to see if there is any improvement. Experience shows the less you get people here to interfere, the better it is!

I am sorry to say, but it may not be from your machine. Where do you live? Some areas have bad water and when the machine starts heating it up the smell goes to your clothes. :(
