Several years ago my weight fell badly on my knee in the gym and I felt a pop, and ever since then my knee has not been the same. I've had a MRI and x-ray and there is nothing wrong, according to Dr. Dandavati from JTS. I was told I could do cycling and other exercise. I appreciate that he did not put me through many scans and procedures when he felt there was no real problem and I have no complaints against him at all.

But my knee is quite painful still, if I am on my feet all day the inflammation is unbearable. I don't know who to see about making it back to how it used to be. So lovely ladies is there someone you could recommend that would help me? Where do I go from here?

Thank you both ladies so very much for your prompt and helpful replies. I am glad to know that things have worked out for your DS, Di@Dxb, and if nothing else works I will surely ask for the information you have kindly offered (although in a big doubt if I could afford private treatment in UK). Lolacat I had a look at the website and I don't want to get my hopes up but something feels like I may be on the path to finding the right solution for this endless pain I am in. Thank you again! I love Expatwoman for this reason. They really are good and know what they are doing, Dr Anna is lovely you can talk this through with her and see what she suggests. I'm sure something can be done.

He was advised that surgery would not be helpful at this time and was given some gentle exercises to strengthen the leg muscles do they can support the knee better and give the injured area behind the knee cap some rest. The specialist said that if it worsens in future which he foresaw as being a long way off, by that time there will be non invasive treatment available, this doctor is one of the top knee specialists in the UK and involved in the front line development of the latest methods in his field. I would be happy to pass his details on to you if you wish.

Thanks so much for replying Di. Yes it sounds the same, the pain is getting worse, unfortunately. I am also afraid of getting second opinions because of the experience you had, of being advised for operations that may not be necessary. Dr Dandavati clearly stated this problem would not necessitate surgery now or in the future, this is why I want recommendations from someone else who could have been in similar situation as I don't want to start unnecessary complications. I know the diagnosis for your DS and my case could be completely differing but I just was curious, especially as it is a non-invasive treatment, what worked for your son, and what solution did you find? I am desperate to solve this problem that could take a turn for worse in later years. I am not UK based or I would have definitely asked for the recommendation of the doctor you saw. Is there anyone who could advise which doctor I could see ?

The only one I can recommend is in the UK, DS had a similar accident and has suffered pain for years gradually becoming worse, doctors in Dubai wanted to operate, but we took a second opinion and were very glad we did, he saw a top specialist in the UK who advised surgery was not indicated at all, the Dubai doctor was about to do an unnecessary operation that was not indicated. Please take a second opinion, and just for comparison we saw the UK doctor privately so it would have been in his interest to do the surgery too.
