Sabrina, I hope I am doing this right it is my first time to reply a thread. I had yor same dilemma for hair salons I also go to ine in Al Barsha near Mall of Emirates. It is called SEIER SHADES SALON the number is 04 399 0707 they are near the Coral Al Kooray Hotel. I love them to bits it is clean and affordable. They should be able to do locks etc, I take my 8 year old daughter to have cornrows and single braids she never complains about it being painful. Good lick

Does anyone know or can recommend an Afro hair salon in Dubai that I can get my weave tracks taken out, hair relaxed and new tracks put in??? Thank so much Sx Hi my mom is black and I am mixed and she goes to a salon in Al Barsha 1 by mall of the emirates. I dont remember the name but is it located right next door to perfect endings cupcakes in Barsha 1. so if you look up and find out where perfect endings cupcakes is, you will know that the hair salon is right next door. we used to go to the ones in Deira but we found this one and the location cant be beat. also the salon is very pleasant inside not like the ones in Deira. HTH

Thank you for your help AzaniaKhayaLam, I havent been here for long so I just checked google map. But would you turn right or left if you're coming from Burjman center and once you reach Bank street? I cannot see York international hotel in Google map (it is showing me the hotel near the airport :\: ) I will go and have a look, I am pretty useless when it comes to afro style hair :-( Moustique said not to comb the hair when it's dry, and that is exactly what I was doing!!! I feel sorry for my poor little girl now :( Thank you so much for your help

Ok ladies, directions to the hair product shop...here goes: [u'>[i'>[b'>On Bank Street[/b'>[/i'>[/u'>, coming from [u'>[i'>[b'>Burjuman Mall [/b'>[/i'>[/u'>side, drive straight until you see [u'>[i'>[b'>York International hotel[/b'>[/i'>[/u'> then a bus stop. After the bus stop there is an open parking area (park there since there is no parking in front of the shop) After that there is an immediate traffic light then it's the second or third shop from the traffic light. It's next door to what looks like an Indian restaurant. All this would be on your right and note that you will see about two parking areas on that side, DON'T STOP until you find the one after York International Hotel [url=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'> [img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy026.gif[/img'>[/url'> ETA: One of the products I find very good is the Organic Root Stimulator Shea Butter Softening Hair and Scalp Lotion. Also water based and specifically for use on natural hair, locks, braids and twists and I use it on my 5yr old DD's hair. HTH edited by AzaniaKhayaLam on 01/11/2011 Sorry I am quite bad with directions. But when you say Bank Street - do you mean Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road? So if you have the Burjman center on your left hand side, you need to turn right or left on Khalid Bin Al Waleed? Another question: are these products suitable for toddlers (19months)? Thank you :) YES-its the same street but we've known it to be Bank street since we'eve been here. Sorry for the confusion. As for the products, I dont want to lie to you...I have no idea but my DD is 5yrs old and I use most of them on her too. The shop has other kids products that you may want to try. (the staff is pretty useless though...IMO) Just check the list of the ingredients to be on the safe side but these are not chemicals, just water based leave-in conditioners and hair softening lotions....not processors or straightener. HTH

Regarding how to deal with kids afro/mixed hair (which is my case), when i was little my mother NEVER treated my hair but used to always plait them. If you go down this route make sure it's done by someone who understand that she has to be gentle and not pull the hair. Painful and pointless. In between 2 hairdos, she would leave my hair be for a few days. Also never try combing dry hair, it hurts like h*ll. Wash it, condition it and untangled it with conditioner on. To soften the hair you might also want to try hot oil (or if you dare sheah butter, as it's even better) wraps or some natural conditioning treatments with mayo/vinegar/eggs/honey. It sounds very weird, I know but even with relaxed hair it helps soften it so much. (here's where I found it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSa_F2jyiyM). HTH I loove the ACV rinse, been using it for months and my hair come out soft.....shiny and squeaky clean. I even skip the actual shampooing some times and just do the ACV rinse, deep condition then style using coconut oil lotion/leave in conditioner! This channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsGHj33MR78 has great tips for LO's hair but may be a mission for younger ones. Once you watch these vids, you'll get the hang of what might be right for you or you LO. You'll try a few products obviously but it will be worth it when you find the one that suits your needs.

I so understand the problem.. my son is mixed race and he is 1 and had a huge fro till last week so I decided to just shave it off and he looks awesome, 1 week later the curls are pushing back... will keep an eye on this thread to see if there are some good hairdressers so I dont always have to shave it off.. I always used 'leave in conditioner' after I washed his practically "waterproof" hair and then put baby oil on it to keep it soft... which isnt the best idea coz he kept using his hair to clean his hands of all kinds of dirt...pfft...

Thank you so much for the advices below! AzaniaKhayaLam where do you buy this spray? is it suitable for a 19months old baby? I am using pure olive oil when the hair is still wet, it makes it easier to comb, but it is not the best thing as it smells quite strong :-) To pepito my daughter is mixed race too. I only wash her hair once a week and comb throughout her hair wet with conditioner which really softens it but a day or two later it's dried out again! I was also told not to brush only comb. . . :) Hi ladies, Your best shot is a water based sprayable leave in conditioner. The brand I have is Vitale olive oil leave in conditioner and it does not leave any white residue behind. ETA: I use the spray every time I comb and it's like spraying water on my hair-makes it really soft and easy to comb Also, Youtube has helped me a lot in managing my afro- will look up some links and post for you later. Hi Ladies, Sorry I cannot help on the Afro hair salon. Have you tried Brazilian hair straightening? However I really need your advice on any tips on how to look after afro hair for my daughter she is mixed - 19 months, and brushing her hair is becoming a challenge! I am using oganic pure coconut oil whenever I brush her hair, and olive oil only before washing her hair. I was told not to wash her hair everyday, only twice/week? Thank you in advance To pepito my daughter is mixed race too. Gosh, as usual, don't know name, but there is a salon in Karama on the back side that has been in business for years and does a lot of this stuff. My friend used to go there for her hair for years and she loved it. It's on the residential side (not the center strip. Sorry, I cannot be more helpful.

Cannot remember the name of the salon, but I've been going to them for the past 3 years to have my hair relaxed and I'm very happy with them. Try calling 043431482, they are on the Sheikh Zayed Rd by the Mazaya Centre. HTH ETA, I have also seen them take out/put in weaves. edited by Moustique on 29/10/2011 Hi. They call "On&On Afro hair salon" as I know they do all this staff..
