NOPE - on ipad no subscription needed. It is a free app. According to my 11 year old she just downloaded the app for free from the app store on ipad. I think she said you can pay money so you can watch without the ads ....I'll ask her tonight. Only 'problem' is that you can only watch LIVE tv but it's great for sports fixtures and kids TV on a Sat afternoon as you get the UK Sat am stuff. edited by Feefmick on 21/03/2013 Thanks for that tip, Feefmick, am delighted with it! Now, if only there were something similar for the various iplayers!

Great thread! I was just going to post that about the parking meters as I've been here 5 years and just learned that about a month ago. My tip is if you have Etisilat you can get 1 GB of internet on your phone (I have the Iphone 4s) for 99 AED a month. It's so easy and all you do is text 1010 and enter SM1G and you'll get a sms telling you that you are under review and shortly after that you get a sms telling you that you are good for the next month. After the one month trial period they send you another sms telling you what code to type in so you can renew indefinitely. There is no office to visit, no payments to go make, nothing but making sure you have at least 100 AED on your phone around your renewal time (and of course the first time you sign up) and that's it. I find the 1 GB of data to be plenty for checking email, using FB, playing Words with Friends while I'm waiting on the school run or waiting on an appointment. While I'm at my house I use my wifi so I'm only using my data while I'm out. And if you get close to your limit they will send you a sms but I've never gotten close. I went without internet for a long time b/c my iphone is a factory unlocked purchased directly from Apple and I didn't want to have to sign any contracts with Etisilat but now, problem solved.

Did you know that visitors (for the 33 nationalities which get automatic visa on arrival) - can have Egate cards? Did you know that if your fingerprint doesn't work on Egate, wipe your brow, in order to work the scan needs an oily fingerprint, wiping your brow will give your finger the oil it needs to work. Where do we get the E gate card from? Thanks

Not sure how it works, it's so clever - the parking meter men as they walk past must have a list of cars parked in that area code with plate numbers. or something. no idea! so clever.

Did you know you don't need coins for parking meters? Text 7275 Plate Number - SPACE - AREA CODE (on parking meter) SEND You will get an immediate reply saying when your parking expires. Ten minutes before it expires you will receive an SMS asking if you want to extend. OR you can use your NOL card (Metro/bus) - you can put it in the parking machine instead of coins. edited by Tattie Bogle on 20/03/2013 Tattie is this for all parking meters and do they automatically take it from telephone credit, how does it work? What if you don't have much telephone credit left?
