I had previously asked if anyone had any experience of an ayurvedic treatment. Well, it’s over a week since my return from India after spending 14 nights at an ayurvedic retreat.

Ayurveda is a holistic system that comprises of yoga, massage, diet herbal remedies, detoxification, meditation and daily lifestyle.

Each day starts at 0630 in the morning with a health drink then half an hour walking or cycling. Immediately followed by an hour’s yoga before breakfast. Then meditation followed by treatments. Some time for rest before lunch time. There’s also time for a swim, gym, nap or a read by the small library.

Treatment begins again at 1600 with half an hour’s break and another hour long yoga session. Dinner’s from 1900 and once finished, you want to lie flat and watch telly. Totally detoxified, rejuvenated, cleansed! You are expected to be in bed by 2200!

To be honest with you, I failed in some of the task, in fact, both my husband and I did. I just want to be free to do what I want – free from everyone. Most mornings, to have a lie in when I want. But I will go for a cycle round the block twice approximately a mile long before my 0730 yoga.

The massages are absolutely wonderful. The therapists worked extremely hard. Super deluxe stuff. There’s body hot powder, warm oil pouring over your forehead, mud baths, oil baths, milk and rice scrub. All depends on what your doctor has recommended for you.

Meals. Erm. Meagre and there’s also ‘liquid’ days. I ate all the food except one, the buttermilk drink. By the way, enemas are part of the programme.

In between we managed to take a trip to the Himalayas for a day.

What happens now? The hardest thing is to eat less. Right now, it’s not even half the amount, it’s still two-thirds, no point kidding myself. I continue in the gym as I don’t know where I can join a yoga class here in Dubai. Any near me in Jumeriah 1? Also does anyone know where to buy millet flour? This was used in some of the pancakes. Watched the demo – very easy.

Hope you will treat yourself. In total, my husband lost 7 kg and I managed 4kg. There are other places to have Ayurveda, India is not the only country.

:)
