Hi ladies. Have been living here a few months and until now have avoided driving. I have a full drivers licence from my home country which can be transferred without a test to a UAE licence . Unfortunately I have been putting it off as I have never driven an automatic car on the right hand side of the road and I am terrified of the szr . Is it possible to get private driving lessons here . My husband has offered but that is likely to end in tears. Any advice appreciated!

I am laughing out loud to nobody in particulars advice. Will try to adhere to these rules of the road so as not to stand out. Ha ha! Thanks lolly. Have seen those cars around and wondered if they were just for people who were doing their test. Good to know I can resort to lessons when Fridays venture out inevitably leads to world war 3! Well done on your progress. I am sure you must be delighted to be so independent again. Thanks again ladies!

Thanks for the quick replies girls! I think you are right clairehdp I have been putting it off for so long I have scared myself out of doing it. I think I will just have to bite the bullet as you both have advised. I live in the greens so will maybe stick to that area for a while that's if I make it out of the car park in one piece! Watch out if anyone lives in the greens on Friday morning! Lol! I live in the Greens so shall avoid the roads on Friday haha. You will be fine it is easy how you adapt :-)

After 6years of living here i finally had 2 lessons with belhasa before transferring license. I have been on the roads for a week so far and everything is fine, i just avoid SZR.. as it terrifies me.. I honestly found those 2 lessons helped me immensely and gave me the confidence i was lacking.. I used Belhasa at jebil ali free zone and drove with Shabana. Its a high traffic area which was good as built my confidence up. Good Luck

I started driving from day one of me moving here, and I find it ok. I was really worried about it before, but I had no choice, I had to drive. Yes,there are some silly drivers here, esp on the SZR Rd. I'd start with the quiet roads ( if there is such a thing here) to up your confidence, like Jumeirah Beach Road, or Al Wasl Road, even side roads. Then take it from there :) Sorry I can't help with lessons, but how about a friend go with you a few times?

Bite the bullet and go out with your husband early on a Friday morning the roads are really quiet and you can have a drive around and get your bearings. It's really not so bad at all. I had to jump in the car within a week of arriving because my husband was off on a business trip so I had no time to think about it - i think that's probably the best way but you've had too much time to think about it. Go for it - you;'ll be so pleased with yourself. I wouldnt spend any money on any driving lessons you know you can drive!
