We came from the Canadian system and had to put our son into Grade 10 when we arrived. He absolutely loved it. Academically his grades went up and so did his self-esteem and confidence. He was able to play varsity soccer and travel which was great for him. He made some wonderful friends with whom he is now in contact having started University back home. He got to the University he wanted to go to in Canada and told me if it wasn't for his school he wouldn't have done as well. Our experience was very positive - the school has great school spirit at the high school level - the kids seem to be very inclusive and helpful to new students. I highly recommend.
We've been at DAA for 2 years, and we're happy with it. My DS started in grade 9, and is in 11 now. We like it because he is able to do IB, which we wanted in case he decided to go to university somewhere other than the US. I've heard that ASD is also a really good school, and worth checking out (although no IB there, from what I understand). I am not sure about comparing to the Canadian system though, as my kids were in the Australian system before moving here, but I have met a lot of Canadians there - so hopefully some of them will be on EW and will be able to give you a comparison.
