It's really impossible to make blanket statements about all schools in Dubai V all schools in the UK. It all depends on which schools your children are at HERE and which schools they would be in in the UK. Only you know that... There are really cr@p private schools in the UK as well and they don't all house geniuses - in fact far from it.... Valid point, but OP asked for parents who had experience of both live time, now, not past. The majority of private and state schools (grammer) are excellent, it's not just about academics. This is where i feel many miss the point, it's about everything else gained and the whole student. What is on offer in the UK (and i'm sure many other countries) is a whole package, opportunities & experiences that simply are not available here. Why are so many parents sending or going home (mums) with their children (mainly secondary), the numbers are not just based on whims, they are real for real and valid reasons. Secondary here for me is like drinking Champagne out of plastic glasses. You keep on saying that "so many" parents are sending their children back to the UK for education and I don't doubt that you do know many but I don't know one person who has their child at school in the UK at boarding school. Maybe we are all fortunate. I did know 2 several years ago but not now. Different circles, different schools etc I guess. I just like to redress the impression that is given by a few on here to newcomers that many people in Dubai send their children away..... that is not my experience. edited by spongemonkey on 05/09/2011 Do you have children at schools in Dubai Spongemonkey? Yes.

I would have to say that the schools I experienced in the UK are no comparison to what I have experienced here. However, we have only been here a year so this year may prove me wrong, but I am not going to hold my breath, but am keeping everything crossed.

I know more that have relocated or been sent to boarding now than are still here. If i look at the year we arrived year intake and who is left from that orginal year intake group i could count on one hand who is still left, in fact i know it's 3 kids. Most have gone boarding, relocated for educational reasons back to home country, small percentage moved due to job loss and some moved within Dubai, mainly to DC if accepted. Each year, even mid year the pattern keeps repeating, most boarding schools in the UK are now fully familiar with ME kids, reputations and some of the schools i know from having maybe one ME kid now have handfuls with wait lists. edited by QF2011 on 05/09/2011

If I compare the THREE schools (DBS, JPS and Repton) my children went to in Dubai to the schools they now attend in the UK there is absolutely no comparison. Not all the children are geniuses but my golly do the teachers know how to get the best out of every child academically. The top two sets are starting their GCSEs in year nine this year in 3 subjects. My DDs school has squash courts, indoor basket ball and netball courts, 50m swimming pool complex, a gym, 365 acres of land, lacrosse, hockey and football pitches and a running track plus 8 tennis courts and a huge gymnasium. There are lunchtime clubs and after school clubs, they compete with other schools locally and nationally. This year the gym club went to China to compete internationally. There are so many other things on offer cookery lessons, religious studies, Latin, fashion and textiles and drama and dance are all taught in curriculum time. All of these thing were not available to her in the UAE.

Thanks, that's what I thought, and it's the experience I appreciate as I don't know any different, but equally can't complain coz they are doing so well and having cousins and a sister in law who both teach I know that the results are the kids results rather than the schools, so that shouldn't change whereever they are (I presume).

Sorry, I'm gonna sound dim - but 'no brainer' in what respect?? Mine all in primary at the moment, eldest goes into yr 6 next week. I know a few that have sent theirs back to boarding school for secondry education so it makes me wonder if there is a problem here anyway that I may not have looked for. What ages are your children QF2011? Primary here, secondary boarding, no brainer means just that really, IMHO what is on offer in UK schools (good ones, state or private) is superior to what i have found here. Obiovusly just my humble opinion based on my experience in both countries.
