Hi Ladies,

I hope to eventually be able to start working in Dubai and wondering whether it's common practice here for companies to ask for presentation of education certificate from a potential employee? Need to know if I should start the process of having mine (issued in Russia) translated and legalized...

Thanks in advance!

dramaqn has a sound advise, some countries have a more complicated process of attestation and you will not be able to do it remotely. My masters are from the same part of the world and it was truly a pain in the neck. I am sponsored by the company and initially I have rcvd a work permit and working visa followed (I was never sponsored by DH). Good luck!

Fairly standard procedure to have you diploma attested. It is usually your degree. There are companies in Dubai which are able to assist (i.e. Index), although it may be easier to arrange it in your home countires. Ahhh.. not sure about easier... it's such a bureaucratic nightmare in Moscow! Before I can take my diploma to the UAE embassy I need to have it attested by Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, get some kind of confirmation letter from my University... would have been happy to avoid it - especially considering we're currently living in Germany! DC & Princess_I - my visa will be sponsored by my husband but I (naively?) thought when/if I find a job my visa can be simply transferred to the company - but sounds like I'll need to arrange for a work permit first?? It's much better if you do get your certificate attested, just in case. As far as I know there are few companies in Moscow who can do it for you quickly (for 2 or all 3 - MJ, MFA & UAE embassy), I think even in Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow they can recommend those companies. From my own experience, to be on husband's visa is much easier. If you get the job, your company will need to make labour card for you only, not visa. It's more secure this way :) If you don't like the company, you can change it easily, rather than going through hassle of visa transfer/cancellation. Although, if your hubby visa will be cancelled, your visa will be cancelled too, but then you can always agree with your co to make visa for you.

@the russian are you sure that the company will sponsor you? If they start organizing your work permit so its means your will be still under your husband sponsor ship and the company will provide you the work permit. We facing a big problem that one of my colleagues got divorce (she was under the sponsorship of her husband) and its a big hassle to change her visa from her (Ex-)husband to the company. by the way - if you will be listed (in your work permit) as office clerk, sales employee, archive clerk the company not require your diploma.

You normally need some sort of evidence when you apply for your work permit (if you're on husband's sponsorship) to why you are qualified to do the job. I'm going through the process here at the moment and had to show my GCSE and A Level certificates. HTH DC

yes, you do need it. If I remember right, you have to have your diploma/certificate stamped by the uae embassy in the country where it was issued. once it is done, you need it stamped here too (I forgot which ministry). take a while, but worth the trouble. good luck on your job search!
