I know it is direct flying Etihad, I wasn't clear in my last post. Emirates is the one I was referring to that you must connect in NY. Right now, the flight on Emirates is about 5000 dirhams more for the four of us (one adult and three child fares) and it is not direct. I'm guessing it is so much more because of the NY-Chicago portion that is on AA.
I don't think Etihad is that much cheaper. in fact on several occassions it has been more expensive than BA and Virgin
Agreed - and the sometimes small savings (70 quid this summer for example) aren't worth the trek to AUH for me (DXB airport much closer)
Etihad is generally cheaper than emirates and quality wise I personally think better !
I havnt flown EK in years. Always too expensive. Etihad are always a couple of thousand aed cheaper !
Really? Etihad and Emirates are actually price linked to a certain extent, there's usually not much in it.

In answer to Rosierat it's a different airline from Chicago to Houston and your bags would of been in different bins in cargo, or Etihad had to pay the other airline for your trip even if you didn't fly that sector?
Flying to the US one must claim bags at the port of entry regardless of it being a final destination or not.
The fare is the same whether Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
Most people OS don't know Abu Dhabi so they book to Dubai not knowing its a simple bus ride after landing.
Anyway as long as you book in before flight leaves your on!

The fare is actually coming up a few hundred dirhams more to leave from Abu Dhabi both on Etihad's own site and on third party sites. It is not that big of a difference, just seemed strange. We are flying to Chicago and I was amazed how much less Etihad is than Emirates. I am assuming it is because it would be a different carrier on the NY-Chicago leg.
Thanks everyone for the replies.

If you select that you will be travelling from Dubai Marina Mall it should be okay.
the reason for this is if you select Chelsea Towers, you need to check in there ( they have a counter ) Dubai Marina Mall is literally a bus stop and you just hop in the coach and you check in in Abu Dhabi Airport. so you can do it that way !
On your way back, when you pass through immigration, just go to arrivals and dont bother with the coach.
3 boys, that is very strange, as i travel with ethihad home al teh time and i book from AD and Dubai both and the prices are exactly the same as the coach is complementary so shouldnt be extra coming from Dubai.
I would call and cehck that out as it sounds odd to me personally.
I have turned up in AD and not used the coach even though booked through dubai - doesnt matter as once you check in, thats all that counts!
I had a similar situation with Etihad last summer. It was cheaper to fly with Eithad from Abu Dhabi to Houston with a stopover in Chicago than it was to just fly to Chicago. I thought I was being clever and booked to Houston knowing I would get off in Chicago. Of course, their computer system knows exactly what I have done and in the end they charged my credit card with the difference (the supposed savings).
I suspect this situation will be the same and you will be charged in the end.
Looking to book flights home for the summer for the kids and I and it seems Etihad is cheaper if we book our flights as leaving Dubai as opposed to Abu Dhabi which seems odd to me. Anyways, we don't plan on using the coach from Dubai to Abu Dhabi as DH will want to come to the airport to see us off. Is it a problem if we book out of Dubai and don't use the coach, just turn up at the airport in Abu Dhabi in time to check in for our flight?
Thanks!
