lovely WM, a big thank you!
my husband thinks i'm silly about this, but hey, will he buy me new ones if it gets damaged? no!
did you also put the on the insurance listing? i think i have answered myself already ....
Absolutely! :D
I'd hate to calculate how much it would cost to replace my lovelies, but I've held onto ALL the receipts over the past decade or so -- for home & contents insurance as well -- so was able to insure them for the appropriate amount when doing the shipping. ;)
PS. Just a thought ... if you have the funds to do so, you might consider sending your bags/shoes as 'extra luggage' by plane, rather than shipping them by sea. It's not cheap, but you will get your things within a week rather than six, and there'll be less likelihood of your goodies being damaged if you're worried about them.
I shipped my kitchen equipment and clothes [and yes, some shoes and bags!'> that way when moving here. :)

sounds like the right thing, thanks waxmuch!
- why the zip-lock bag?
- where to find the acid-free paper?
- where did you put the shoes on? on the movers box but inside the original boxes, i guess?
Zip-lock bag -- just for extra protection, I guess. I always have visions of water or similar getting into my shipping boxes, and my leathergoods are v.precious to me. BTW I pack my clothes in zip-lock bags too [the big vacuum-seal bags'>
Acid-free paper -- most shipping companies sell this. I arranged to have boxes/paper delivered before the day of the move so I could pack stuff in advance
Shoes -- where possible, and where I had original boxes, yes, I'd pack the shoes in those [in their chamois tidies'> but where I didn't [I've bought shoes on holiday and haven't wanted to buy the box as well because they take up too much suitcase space!'> I either packed them into another shoe's box, or separately between the boxes in the packers' box.
Hope that helps. :)

I'd be worried about moisture getting trapped in the plastic bag in this climate if they weren't shipped immediately. You'd need to put those moisture absorbing sachets in if you use plastic bags wouldn't you?
That's not a bad idea, but I found the chamois bags enclosing the handbags did an okay job of preventing moisture issues. As I said, they all arrived in pristine condition! :)

When I moved here, I brought a couple of bags in suitcases but the rest were shipped in boxes.
To pack, I first stuffed them with acid-free tissue paper to the 'shape' of each bag, wrapped the bags in the same tissue paper, then packed them in their chamois bags [the ones which you're given when you purchase the bag'> and THEN put each one in a large zip-lock bag.
I then packed the bags carefully into the official packing boxes provided by the shipping company with shipping paper scrunched up in the spaces so they wouldn't shift in the move.
It took six weeks for my shipment to arrive in Dubai [and I imagine the boxes spent a little time in the baking sun on the docks!'> but each and every bag arrived in excellent condition.
It's a bit of work, but worth it.
PS. I did the same for my expensive shoes, except I had proper shoe stuffers in the toes of the shoes rather than tissue paper. ;)
