Tried posting this on maids forum, but didnt get any reply. I hope someone will be able to let me know about this.

I am not really sure what flight to book for our maid. She is going on holiday end of this month, so we're in process of booking a flight for her. But I am not really sure if I book her a flight to Manila, or do I book her also a connecting flight to her home town?
I know my husband gets flights paid only until capital of our home country, but does that apply for maids too? I want to be fair, but also follow common practice...any advice would be greatly appreciated.
(Does anyone know what the labour law states about this, or can I look it up online?)

Thanks.

It would be fair to pay her to her home, not the capital. Don't believe it is stipulated though.

I just sent my maid home and I asked her exactly which airport she wanted to arrive at. I also booked her onto a flight that flew straight to Manilla, unlike her previous employer who apparently got her to Manila with 2 stopovers, and then booked her on a boat to get home. some 3-4 days on a boat. Unbelievable what some people would do to save a buck (and from the sound of it these people were very well off so it was not a question of money). If she lived in Manila or close, then Manila would be fine, otherwise, if you are able to, please book her a trip to her home town. To me, that would be the right thing to do, irrespective of what the law is or what is expected.

According to the contract required by the Philippines embassy in Qatar, the requirement is for a ticket to Manilla. But I always buy my maid a ticket to her hometown. The cost difference is a lot less significant to me than it is to her, and this way I book it as a single ticket. I know it makes it much easier for her when she's traveling.

Why don't you ask her what she would prefer? and make your decision based on that. She probably has a nightmare and long road journey if not flying close to her home town.
