Hi All
We have been in dubai 2 weeks and are delighted to have found the perfect apartment. We have put in our offer but the estate agent has come back to say there has been a matching offer with 2 cheques. Any advice on what to expect or how to handle securing rental properties. I really want this, the view is amazing and the sooner we can set up our home the better.
Thanks :)

I have been looking for a 3bed in that area and to be honest most of them that are around now have been for a few weeks so would think you are in a good position, stress your plus points to the agent, the landlords may want the money etc but they also want someone who will look after it! Will do Jimmymac, if I can get chatting to the estate agent for long enough, she has been in meetings all day too. I fell in love with the downtown area, we had been considering the marina but i think the atmos in the downtown is just lovely. good luck with your house hunting (and good luck to your friend who found the text messages!)

Great insight, thank you. I kind of begrudge giving the estate agent the 5%, she didnt even have to turn up to show us the apartment, we just had to let ourselves in and i have had to ring her continuously... really hasnt earned a penny but I will do whats legally required!

Thanks AdviceSeeker, will have to sit tight and pray that we are lucky with it. Do you know, if they say that we can have it, are they able to back out and give it to someone else? what should we expect when trying to clinch the deal as such? If they say you can have it, I would get down there with the cheque for 5% deposit as well as the 3 cheques for the rent, and the 5% agency fee, ask them to draw up a contract, sign it and give them photocopies of the cheques, they can then take them forward to the LL to sign, then once its all signed give them the cheques.

Its in the downtown area. :D That is quite a popular area and if this particular apartment has a view which is very desirable and not easy to find elsewhere it may be the case there's another offer... Agents can be horrific, and remember LL also put the property with loads of agents sometimes so there could be offers coming in from other parties for sure.

funny, i thought they may have been because i had initially said 3 cheques as its my DH company that are paying the cheques - she didnt ring me back to tell me there was an offer in (was a friday mind you) so when i rang on Sat to ask what the situation was, she said oh, they have the same offer with 2 cheques. I rang again today and she said she cant get hold of the landlord as he is in the US at the mo so hopefuly tomorrow I should know a bit more. Is it normal that the agents dont report back on the situation? or do they to and fro between interested parties? Its in the downtown area. :D

if you've really got your heart set on it and can pay in 1 cheque then offer that...but sounds like the agent is playing games. Where exactly is this apartment?

Is the estate agent playing games???? Do they really have another offer. If you want the apartment that bad then offer 1 cheque, or if needed up the rent and pay with 2 cheques. Can I ask where the apartment is???
